How did you play Saints Row spartan? I've not seen any demo of it on the Live Marketplace yet, and I'm pretty sure the game hasn't slipped out onto the shelves anywhere yet has it?
There is a demo of it that just came out a few days ago. It was a fun game. It's basically the exact same thing as GTA. Even the HUD is similar.

Recently played: Impossible Creatures

I remember why I uninstalled this game. The creature creation thing is pretty fun, but when it comes down to actually playing the game it falls far short of the mark. The sound effects and voice overs are really bad too. Neat concept, poor execution. It also would have been nice to be able to combine more creatures, and have a pig, and a man, thereby giving the ability to create manbearpig.

I bought Field Commander on PSP over the weekend. Seriously, I wouldn't at all be surprised if the guys at Intelligent Systems (makers of Advance Wars) sued. I knew FC was heavily influenced by AW, but not a complete and total rip-off. Virtually every mechanic is identical to Advance Wars!

Not a bad thing of course, since the Advance Wars series is The Daddy when it comes to turn-based war handheld games, but tbh the overall presentation is a big step backwards imo.

Unfortunately they've gone down the "we'll do it in 3D, cos 3D is obviously better than 2D" route. As a result, the structures look very poor, the units are a mess of pixels and each tile is so big that I find myself constantly scrolling around the battlefield. And all for what? So the battlefield can be rotated, which is entirely pointless.

Argh, kinda sad to hear that Field Commander was a disappointment, as I was planning on picking that up at the weekend or something. Oh well, might grab it anyway. I've only played AW briefly on a mate's DS, so I guess the ripped off mechanics won't bother me much

Oh and congratulations on beating the 1 million mark kev - I was over the moon when I broke 500,000 recently

Man I played and loved every single one of those old LucasArts games. I never beat Day of the Tentacle... but I did beat:

1) Full Throttle

2) Sam and Max Hit the Road

3) That game where you have a Kazoo and ... its an adventure game like the two above.

4) Indiana Jones and something something Atlantis

Loved both. My first videogame ever was Maniac Mansion on this old ass PC with the huuuuge floppy disks. Black and white and everything.

I'll check out that site when I get home.

Thanks. I'm going for some of the other achievements now; 500k without dying, gaining 9 lives and gaining 9 ships, but they're very difficult indeed to get. Unfortunately the achievements for most Xbox Live Arcade games are far too hard to get imo, that's my only gripe about the current XBL games.

In Geometry Wars the emphasis is to stay alive and build up the multiplier, even if it means using up all your smart bombs for 1 life and losing your other lives cheaply. ie, say you have 5 lives during a game, your score will be bigger if you stay alive for 10 minutes then lose 4 lives for no score, than if all 5 lives last 2 minutes each. So, basically, use smart bombs to keep a good multiplier run going, don't bother using them at the beginning of each life.

Unless you either don't have a DS or you want the online multiplayer capabilities of Field Commander, ReNo, I'd definately go for the far superior Advance Wars: Dual Strike.

The more I play FC the more I'm disappointed. The core gameplay mechanics are fine - not much is changed from AW:DS, but the presentation and UI are often dire and drag it down a lot.

If you were to look at screenshots it looks quite impressive. For instance...

http://www.gamepro.com/screen_viewer.cfm?globalId=112503&p=21&s=1

However, try working out at a glance what the hell those units in the bottom right of the screenshot are. No chance! They look far too similar. Turn based strategy games take long enough to play without having to hover the cursor over everything constantly to see what it is and this is especially important on a handheld of course when you might only have a spare 5-10 mins on the train or whatever.

Additionally, when a battle occurs it zooms in to focus on the two units involved. Sounds impressive, but the end result just highlights how low detail the units, structures and landscapes are, and frankly the battles themselves look feeble. AW:DS got this right once again with its fun, OTT and stylised approach.

And in terms of the UI, FC is constantly having to load stuff from the UMD so virtually every button press on the menu system has a delay of about a second before it responds. May not sound much, but try navigating several layers of menus and scrolling through maps & commanders, with a delay whenever you press anything.

There are also some major omissions when it comes to long-term gameplay; there is very little to promote players to beat their best scores. For instance, AW:DS saves your top 5 scores for every single skirmish map as well as which character you used (and additionally running totals of every enemy unit destroyed in every game you've played, which contributes towards 100% completion), while FC doesn't save anything whatsoever after a map has been completed!

Overall Field Commander is a good game if you can live with the shoddy UI and visuals, but unfortunately it's pretty far from an AW:DS for the PSP tbh.

I just played through the first 10 missions of Syndicate, that game that came out 13 years ago, developed by Bullfrog.

I loved that game, and after not playing it for probably... 11 or 12 years, I still love it.

It's not as mindless as it might seem, and it was way mature beyond its time.

I have to play without sound unfortunately (no headphones here  ) but it's still a blast. To reminisce:

Ah Syndicate and UFO (X-com) not played those in a while.

A friend found a multiplayer version of UFO on the net a while ago. That was quite fun to play.

I've picked up the Total Wars Eras box set the other week and been playing though that aswell as Lego Star Wars and I carnt wait for Lego Star Wars 2 now. Its just lots of fun can get a little annoying sometimes though when your trying to use the force onsomething and you keep getting shot.

Just bought Prey yesterday for ma 360. I must say, although there is little to no story intro, and some weak voice acting, the level design is holding my interest greatly at this time. The space ship is absolutely awesome, and the multi gravitational walkway thingies are definitely cool. I have already become disoriented as to where I am a couple of times.

The Dead Rising demo hit Live Marketplace the other day, and for me at least it performed as expected. Violent zombie killing in a hugely populated city mall with the most ridiculous and varied weapon selection you could imagine. Popping giant lego heads onto zombies and watching them stumble into one another before skateboarding around and knocking them all over is a gaming experience you don't find anywhere else. Looks really nice to boot. If you have a 360 and a Live subscription, grab it and have fun

ReNo, I noticed you playing the Dead Rising demo quite a lot.

I played it for a few hours myself over the weekend. It really does get across the zombie infested mall scenario very well indeed and is lots of fun. At times there must be a good hundred zombies on-screen. Anyone who likes flicks such as Dawn of the Dead will be in their element with Dead Rising.

I'm probably going to buy it, but will first wait for the reviews to see how well (or badly) the 15 minutes of carnage in the demo translates to an entire game.

Here's the Dead Rising map apparently. The demo is only limited to Paradise Plaza, which looks to be about 10-15% of the overall map, so there looks to be a whole lot more to explore in the full game.

I just played through the demo for Prey.

I was impressed by the graphics, even though I couldn't shake the feeling I was playing Doom 3.

I wasn't impressed by the voice-acting or the storyline. The barscene abduction was cool, but all the dialogue prior to that felt hokey and forced, not to mention the character's faces didn't look that great.

The monsters and aliens do look badass though, and are definitely weird.

Some of the features are sweet, specifically the portals and the gravity changing, and the walking on the walls thing is pretty damn cool. The guns weren't great, although the freezing gun felt very Duke Nukem

All in all though, I would rather play Doom 3 than Prey, even with all of Prey's new gameplay features, I prefer getting the pants scared off me in Doom 3. The atmosphere and storyline in Doom 3 grabbed me, whereas Prey's didn't. Sure the action in Doom 3 is boring and repetative, but the story/atmosphere in Prey seems weak to me. I won't be buying this game.

Maybe I'm just not finding FPS titles interesting anymore. I didn't like the FEAR demo either.

Man, I have been away from DoD:S for a while now, and I just got back and have been playing quite a bit of it.

I just played jagd, and I have to say I love that they brought over the bomb-defuse scenario from goldsource DoD.

I always cycle through my favorite classes, but I have to say for Axis I always pick #1, the guy with the Kar, and for Allies I pick #2, the guy with the thompson. The playstyle is different for both, but in general I like being able to move around quickly. Sitting and waiting with either a sniper rifle or an mg isn't for me.

I really love the way this game looks and the atmosphere it captures. Luckily, I have a good computer so it runs and looks great. If I had to turn the settings down, I probably wouldn't like the game as much. I think part of it is DoD:S pushes the limit of multiplayer eye-candy, and I like that.

Any SnarkPitters play DoD:S much? I'd love to get in a game together and cooperate or compete

FEAR Multiplayer is gonna be free to download and play in 10 minutes.

http://www.joinfear.com/

I'm not gonna play it though, I played the demo and thought the weapons sucked to a degree that makes the game unenjoyable. It's another example of what I call a "lol prity graphfikz" game. Maybe the single player is fun, I don't know I haven't tried it, but the multiplayer is retarded. And the parallax-mapped bullet holes look fugly.

AtM: I play DoD:S, but generally stick to Australian servers since everything else has a ping of >500 from here. Youre right, its a great game, in my opinion better than the original. Its what CoD 2 multiplayer should have been (looks almost exactly the same, plays far better). As far as play style goes, I just hit random class and frag.

I just bought Episode 1, and I'm playing through it right now. I'm not exactly sure how far through I am, but I'd estimate halfway.

I'm really enjoying it right now. The puzzles are pretty satisfying to figure out, and I like how they make use of the gravity gun.

Having Alyx there is pretty cool as well, especially in dark areas where you have to spot for her with your flashlight.

I like zombies yes, so I get double the pleasure.

I tried downloading media (ie. Ep2 Teaser) via Steam, but on playback everything is green and the video is oddly colored / corrupted. All videos I've downloaded are that way, and when I try to delete local content Steam hangs and I have to force quit. Any ideas?

The Steam video player isnt too good. Try going into your steam folder and looking for the media files, they are .wmv files. I dont remember where theyre stored, but they arent in gcfs, and theyre playable with a normal player (works for me).

Hey wilson, you play any cs:s on the node servers? I play zombie horde
and regular cs:s failry regularly on node servers under the name Agent
Smith Bob Huyuck. Just look for someone by that name whose getting

Also started playing BF2 again, and still that game is s**t on a stick
at the best of times. If you manage to actually get into a game its
hell fun, but actually getting into a game, and having it run even
slightly smoothly, is the almost impossible challenge. I swear that the
game is only 90% complete at best, no way in hell was it finished when
the released it.

Also pre-ordered chromehounds for my 360 (first chance I've had to
bitch about it), and I'll be trading it in for some cash off dead
rising after only playing the damned game once. Piss weak
single-player, no network play, and only live multiplayer make it
rubbish for anyone who doesn't want to shell out for the privelige of
playing games online (whoever though of being able to play games online, for free!?)
or doesn't have the time to join and play through campaigns with other
people. Such a promising game, would have been awesome with a group of
friends over, and it doesn't even have 2 player combat. What a load of
crap.

2 player combat (if you mean versus) in Chromehounds would have been a waste of time - the game is about tactics and squad behaviour so a 1v1 game would be rather ridiculous. Coop would probably have been a good addition though. I've yet to get the game - its on my "when there's nothing else coming out worth buying" list - but the demo didn't impress me a whole lot. I hear good things about the multiplayer component but for now, not quite good enough to make me cough up ?40 for it.

I'll stand by the fact that Live is worth paying for until I see a competing service from Sony or Nintendo that does the same for free. There's so much to love about Live that I don't begrudge paying ?40 a year for it. Then again, I suppose you get some of my favourite features of the service for free via the silver option, so maybe in that light, ?40 for the online multiplayer portion does seem a little steep.

Hey wilson, you play any cs:s on the node servers? I play zombie horde and regular cs:s failry regularly on node servers under the name Agent Smith Bob Huyuck. Just look for someone by that name whose getting owned and cursing
I think I mightve seen you once... but I dont play CS:S much anymore, I prefer DoD (and hate ZH  ). If I have time on the weekend I'll try and find you tho

I just got finished with the Demo for Dark Messiah: Might and Magic. drool

This demo was so great, I actually will buy the game. great engine and graphics, it was a real winner!

I think that I will start playing these "inter-active video games" instead of sitting around hating all minorities, like I normally do.
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

Mm, turn on cheat mode, and then ingame fire up noclip. That way you can bypass the trigger that ends the game and fight the ogre at the end.

Checked out the multiplayer for Prey and it's badass.

I also grabbed the demo for Call of Juarez. It's a first person game that takes place in the "old west". You can play two sides cowboy or "indian" (not really). It seems like it has some unique stuff, nothing to go crazy over, but it deserves a look. Also, the game is using Chrome's engine (you can't tell by looking at it though) The other thing is the game looks fantastic.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I've been playing a lot of Kameo for the 360 the past few days after picking it up in a sale. I wanted the game well before getting a 360 but the demo didn't really impress me all that much, so I waited on it reaching a good price before picking it up. Thankfully the game is far better than the demo suggested. The game doesn't really break any new ground, choosing instead to base itself almost entirely on the Zelda school of adventure gaming, but what it does, it does really rather well. It certainly looks good, hell it looks great at times, with some really lush environments and charismatic character design. Even Kameo herself - perhaps the most orthodox character, feels quite fresh and different as she hovers along with the help of her (mostly useless) fairy wings. The game's structure is totally by the books for the genre - travel across a world map to a dungeon, go through dungeon to get new ability/equipment (in this case, new creatures to transform into), use new ability/equipment to do some little quests and get rewards, use new ability/equipment to gain access to the next dungeon, repeat - but its tried and tested and hard to fault. The only thing that really sets the game apart is that, unlike most games of this sort, you have 11 characters to play as that you can switch between at the press of a button, and even though they mostly have very specific uses, little differences such as movement speed, turning circle and physical size mean there are benefits to be had from switching between them frequently.

So, in short, a charming adventure game that looks fabulous. Well worth checking out in my opinion

I picked up Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion two days ago.

I'm really not sure how I feel about this game. I expected a lot from it, based on all the reviews and word of mouth, but ultimately I haven't been as satisfied. I thought I was going to really enjoy all the freedom, but as it turns out you don't really have a lot of freedom when you walk into an area and realize you can't kill anything because you're too weak.

The variety and different class types seems nice, and I do like the thieving aspect of the game, but right now I'm just cranky because I've hit a deadend in the storyline and I can't seem to progress.

If any of you have played the game, right now I have to kill a bunch of vampires in order to please some evil goddess so she can do something for me. I killed the first vampire, but the rest are in groups of two, and there's a giant orc who I can't get close to killing. I decided maybe I just wasn't strong enough, so I did some side quests, and ended up leveling about 8 times, and picked up a new sword, but this vampire is still spanking me. It's frustrating.

I ended up creating a new character, more magic heavy, so hopefully I won't have the same problems.

Anyway, I like the gladiator arena, thieving, and the scale of the game. I don't particularly like the way the people look, the pursuasion gameplay, or the huge amounts of time it takes to level certain skills, as well as how hard it is to do certain quests. I just don't know if I've progressed too quickly, or if I need to buy new skills or weapons (if that'll even help).

I'll revise me opinion of the game once I play more but right now it's sitting at "barely fun."

Is there anything I'm missing?

Just started playing DeadRising. Pretty cool sofar, if you can look past the save system and first mini-boss fight. If you like a little zombie killing with as many weapons as you can imagine, you should like this game. I dig the humor.

I liked the trailer a lot. I wish I knew anyone who owned a 360 and liked zombie games, so I could go over to his house and mooch off him.

that's very similar to an older game i remember playing on ps2 only without the zombies
you basically just ran around a mall and killed innocent bystanders

Okay, so I've played Oblivion for 2 more days, and I have to say the game is growing on me.

When I wrote my last post about the game I had barely scratched the surface of the story and the enormity of the world. I was mostly frustrated by the learning curve, but now that I've figured out how this game really works, its getting more fun.

The biggest change though, is that I found a character that matches my play style (jumping from rooftop to rooftop while throwing lightning bolts with reckless abandon).

Also, joining the mage guild and thieves guild was a good idea, it gives you a way to connect to each town that you travel to, with a guaranteed place to sleep.

Once I work my way through the mage guild storyline, I'll move on to the thieves guild, then the fighters guild, then the main storyline. And maybe if I get bored I'll turn to the dark side and join the dark brotherhood

So yeah, this game really is pretty sweet. I'm appreciating the sheer amount of voiceacting work they've done as well.

Anyone else play this game? Frenchy maybe? What did you think?
