Looks nice. If you can get one of those cheap tape devices that plug into the headphone jack of any sort of music device and plays the songs through your car speakers, you could make some nifty playlists for the road, I imagine.

That's what I do when I do the 5 hour drive to and from school.

I've found a freeware program called monkeyjam which you can use to do
Stop Motion Animation. Only made a short 5 second one so far
(http://homepage.ntlworld.com/suicidle_tramp/Test%20Animation.gif), bad
quality pic as it was on my webcam.

I can't for the love of god find a twain driver for my digital camera (vivitar vivicam 4345), so no webcam mode

@AtM/Orph: There's a great little gadget at Best Buy. It's a cassette with a headphone wire coming out of it, and you just plug it in your car and play any mp3 player through the cars system. 10 bucks CDN.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Cheapest way to get mp3s going in your car, way cheaper and easier than iTrip. Sound quality isn't amazing, but still not bad.

I just spent the last 10 minutes flying over London playing "Luftwaffe"
I think next I'll fly over Washington DC and play "Islamic Extremist"
Too bad there are no Mid-East locales for this, that way I could play "Liberator"

I recently saw this bumper sticker. It made me think of Snarkpit so much that I had to post it. Sadly, I forgot till today.

You may need to replace the words "Teenager" and "Parents" with words befitting your ages and the adults you are associating with but the pretense remains firmly educational for this website.

Bumper sticker topic:

Teenagers, are you tired of your parents giving you a hard time? Are they always on your case for some reason?
Well, take action today.
Move out,get a job and support yourselves before you stop knowing everything.

I laughed so hard I saw spots thinking about that.

The artists in my office have been playing around with this, and it looks pretty exceptional. From where I sit I have a clear line of sight to our concept artist's monitor, and I've been watching him make zombie heads the past couple of days in no time at all. Its not a hugely new concept - Z-Brush has been doing the same sort of thing for ages now - but apparently it is so much more intuitive to use compared to Z-Brush's rather clunky interface.

Things are cheaper in Ohio.

You can buy prime land, about 5 acres with a home for under $15,000.
Most homes there go for maybe $10,000. Unless they're really nice, then they can go upwards of $60,000 at the most. That includes large portions of land.

My house, in Oregon, was $175,000 ... and that was cheap.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I recently found out about the famous "wilhelm scream."

It's a soundbyte thats been used over and over and over again in movies since the 1950's and is an injoke amongst soundpeople in the movie industry. The reason this came up is that someone at csnation noticed that they used the scream in the TF2 trailer (the first dying soldier).

Here's a youtube compilation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdbYsoEasio

It's not complete, because apparently there are other movies that use it. If you want to know more there's a wiki entry on it.

Interesting story, I had read about the Wilhelm maybe two years ago... I never knew what it sounded like (didn't bother searching for an audio clip).

I always noticed this weirdish shout in the King Kong dinosaur stampede, and I had also read the Wilhelm was in that movie.. I looked it up finally and found that it was that weird shout indeed.

I also heard it in Star Wars Ep3 on a later date.. I think...

Is this a big coincidence, or did you find out about the Wilhelm somehow related to the new TF2 trailer, Morph?

I just watched it again and the Wilhelm can be heard when the four sticks of dynamite blow up the scout rushing across them.

If that's a coincidence, whoa. I somehow doubt it though.

Wilhelm scream strikes again. Twice.

I was flipping channels and Star Wars episode 3 was on. I literally watched about 20 seconds, got bored, and was about to change the channel. A stormtrooper died and he did the Wilhelm scream.

Also, I was watching Valve's teaser trailer for Jagd, and the first Allied guy to die does the Wilhelm scream.

This makes me sad. He was so crazy I thought he'd live forever.

He leaves behind a wife and two young kids:

Stainton said Irwin?s American-born wife Terri, from Eugene, Ore., had been informed of his death, and had told their daughter Bindi Sue, 8, and son Bob, who will turn 3 in December.

Additionally, its apparently extremely rare to get killed by a stingray...

Most of the "extreme" animal people only survive because of luck. I mean he know how to treat animals in a way they won't attack them likely. But it happens all the time... See Grizzly Man

Or Roy... although I think people using animals for cheap (or expensive) tricks deserve being bitten.

Roy is different because he and Siggfried thought that they could overpower thousands of years of instinct in 10 years of training. That was stupid and naieve, and an accident waiting to happen.

Steve wasn't stupid and naieve, he respected the power and capabilities of the animals he encountered, and through his extensive knowledge survived those everyday situations, until, it seems, he made 1 wrong move, and also got extremely unlucky.

I'd say he was but at the same time this was the reason people liked him so much. I respect his efforts to make the wildlife more popular among the younger generation. But for many of his "stunts" I couldn't see a motivation except for being a little naive and adventurous.

I think you don't know the meaning of naieve. He knew exactly what could happen, and he was smart enough to know how to get himself out if a situation went bad, and equally aware his life might end at any moment.

Nothing I've ever seen suggests otherwise.

He was feeding a crocodile with his baby in his arms. He had no respect of the capabilities of the animal. Otherwise he wouldn't have taken such a risk. I recommend watching Werner Herzog's Grizzly movie. It's a totally different story about a man with a different personality but it's the lack of respect for the brutality of nature they have in common and ultimately killed them. If you're 99.9 % sure no animal can kill you because you know them so well but you're working with a thousand then you'll die and should see it coming.

That doesn't change anything about the fact that I'd prefere to see him alive.

Ok, let's say he was 100% sure... It's just that he was only 99.9% right (at best). That's what I'm trying to say. It was way to predictable that he was killed by an animal. And it's obvious that he didn't want to die that way. Why should he? So what he did was clearly the result of a distorted view on animals and nature.

A member of a native tribe still living in the rainforest could easily have a similar understanding of wild animals as Steve Irwin had. He'd probably do similar things that are equally dangerous without being scared too much. But he would do it only from time to time. For hunting. Maybe some initiation rite. But not because he "loved" those animals so much. That's simply wrong. If you love an endangered species these days you preserve his habitat and not become friends with it.

So often in his shows Steve Irwin jumped in a river full of crocodiles when he could just have pointed at them for the same camera shots. Carried them with his bare hands when he could have used a piece of cloth or some safety equipment instead. The only reason he actually touched them was either to get a personal thrill but more likely to "prove" they are not as dangerous as people think. All of which is bulls**t. A crocodile isn't "nice" or "cute". It's mean and aggressive. And it still has a right to live. That's hard to make clear to people but Irwing didn't do anything to transport that message. He clearly lacked respect in this regard, degrading crocodiles and other animals to being his "mates" instead of natural enemies (which they are). It was this mentality that killed him.
