In addition to Coke's acidity, it also contains aspartame, aka "FLAVOR (951)", which stimulates the appetite, making you feel hungry when you're not really.

if that's true, then i should feel starved most of the time. i go through a 2ltr bottle of full cream, full fat coke every day, sometimes more. i'm not underweight, but i could put on a stone and still not be overweight. i've actually tried to put on weight in the past, but after a few days of extra portions, i lose my appetite completely for a day or two.

Yeah, fishy, you still have to start eating healthy. You're still young, so your metabolism is high. You can afford to take in the extra calories now.

Wait until you hit your late twenties or thirties. You'll put on weight at an amazing rate if you keep eating like this.

Metabolism my boy. Also other things that effect the problems
are aspects such as the upbringing, and thyroid I believe. With an
overactive thyroid gland you'll generally be more active and sleep
less, which seems to be a trend with mappers...
I sleep well and like a log, always have done. My upbringing has been pretty good too, no complaints.

EDIT: I also read up on thyroid glands, and according to the health
website I have a normal thyroid gland. It's not over or under-active,
which means we can turn this thread in to a "how the f*** does thursday
stay skinny" thread. lol

With quite a few people you can eat loads when you are young but when you get to your 20's it won't be like that.

I know that, it's just I'd like to know why. Especially as no one
seem's to be able to correctly convince me of any reason at all for it.
Building up muscle hasn't affected my weight at all either.

Actually, we REALLY DO use Coke to eat rust off of engine
blocks. and my brother's tooth REALLY WAS dissolving, mum said it was
gross, so we've no idea how far it would've went, she made us dump it.
but truly coke is as caustic as Vash on a bad day...
Coke that eat rust of engine blocks? Sorry but its actualy a modern myth...

There's a lot of em, check it out... http://www2.coca-cola.com/contactus/myths_rumors/ingredients.html

Look at your source RaPtoR - its the Coca-Cola official website....

Also, the site says nothing about whether or not coke can eat rust off engine blocks or dissolve stuff, it just says that Coke will not dissolve your teeth/bones any more than your own stomache acid would, and that drinking coke is not like soaking stuff in coke.

Then you must not work out hard enough. If you train with weights on a consistent basis, I guarantee you will gain weight steadily for at least the first three months.

I gained more than 20 lb (10 kg) in three months when I first started lifting weights. But I went every other day for the entire three months, and I've not stopped for the past fifteen years.

Wow! That's great. You're one of the few people who can eat all they want and still maintain a healthy weight. Good for you.

However, consuming vegetables and fruits still helps to lower the risk of cancer and other ailments. So even if you don't do it for weight reasons, there are still plenty of other reasons why people should be eating healthy.

I thought I was the only "oldie" besides Orph at the SnarkPit, but apparently, older gamers and mappers are not that uncommon.

Well, i've checked it out, it wasn't written objectivly at all. Just
becuse Coca Cola is a large company, you don't have to blame their
products to be radioactive  There are two bad things about coke:
Sugar (=fat) and acid (witch like sugar, is bad for the teeth, but not
nearly enough to eat rust etc). I usualy drink diet/light to get rid of
all that nasty sugar. If you want to keep the acid away from your
teeth, drink it with a straw. Then, there's nothing to worry about!

Fool sloth, Muscle weighs way more than Fat.

Think of what he said logically. He got more muscular but stayed the same. Now surely if he got more muscly, but muscle weighed less than fat, then he would not only lose the weight of the fat, but would only gain a tiny proportion in muscle, so in theory he would be lighter.

If muscle weighs more (as it does) then he loses all his fat, and gains a bit of muscle. He wouldn't gain as much muscle as he had fat (in size terms), but in mass terms it would be almost the same.

Yeah Satchmo, i'm an oldie too. I'll be 35 next month.

I remember seeing cigarette commercials when I was a kid. Back when they were still considered "semi-acceptable". Now there just advertised on billboards and in magazines for the most part. I wonder if 20 years from now fast food commercials will no longer exist, or at least be severely regulated or minimized. It's going to be interesting to see. I feel strongly that America's (in particular) overweight issue is quickly coming to a head.

When I was as old as my late 20's I could eat anything under the sun and not gain an ounce. These days I really need to be critical of what I eat. I'm also in the Marine Corps so I guess i'm somewhat forced to stay in good physical condition, but that hasn't stopped me from gaining 20 pounds since I joined in 1995. Yes, it's time for me to exercise more and eat healthier. I weigh 165 now and i'm 5' 10".

You made a good point earlier about having a plate of fruit on the dining room table to eat if someone has the munchies. Damn good idea. As a matter of fact, I went to the fridge the other day and took out an apple. I haven't eaten one in years and it tasted great. Kinda sad, this day and age we live in. I admire your proffesion, Satchmo.

I've looked into the Alkaline diet which my wife has pointed out to me and we're going to do 75% alkaline foods and 25% acidic. Should help us out.

One's profession (or extracurricular activities) has great impact on one's fitness, it should be obvious. Soldiers and professional atheletes are required to stay in shape to meet the needs of their respective career. But I think being a doctor helps too, especially during the flu season.

I walk extremely briskly from room to room, and back and forth from my office to each exam room. Sometimes I walk so fast that I almost run into the nurses and other doctors. We have a tremendously large patient load right now, during the peak of the flu season. So to accommodate all the patients who want appointments, we double-book lots of them. The wait is already long to begin with, so I have to walk really fast to save time. I don't want to cut short of the actual visit, and I want to spend as much time as necessary with each patient, so I have to find time in between patients.

Also, I am just starting to play deathmatches recently. I think that burns a lot of calories for me too. Whenever I play, my hands tremble and my heart pumps with the adrenaline rush. It's almost like I am actually running around inside the map myself.

The average weight and height for a fourteen-year-old male is 51 kg (113 lb) and 164 cm (65 in) respectively. Here is an useful link if anyone is curious about his/her weight: http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/

And if anyone uses a Palm OS PDA, this is the program I use to calculate BMI and growth: http://www.statcoder.com/growthcharts.htm (it's a free program).

So I think some Pit members are potentially overweight without realizing it.

another piece of useless [and most probably bollox] information that i picked up a long time ago, was that the brain is a major consumer of your bodies resources, and that intelligent people need more fuel, therefor have a better chance of staying slim.

sounds good to me, seeing as i'm a skinny freak.

Yeah, I'd like to think that too. But unfortunately it's not true. The brain does use a lot of energy, but there is no difference between smart and stupid people in their brain's energy consumption.

I'd like to think that mapping burns a lot of calories too (from firing all those neurons), but that ain't true either. It does, however, make you smarter though. I believe it enhances spatial comprehension.

I'm 14 - 174 cm and 60 kg - I suppose I'm quite a healthy weight for my height then? I'm definitely not fat, or muscly - As shown here.

I'm also glad that you are doing your bit in trying to help these kids - they really need your support, and their parents really need a good kick in the general vicinity of their oversized asses.

Surprisingly, a research showed that sex doesn't burn a whole lot of calories. They even categorized "normal" sex versus "vigorous" sex, but neither is a major calorie burner.

Carrying groceries burns twice as much calories as "vigorous" sex! Of course, it isn't nearly as fun.

Last time I had it measured, I was 3.2% body fat. That is on the verge of being unhealthfully skinny, and if anything, I think it has decreased since then. I tend to look down on people for being fat, but then I feel guilty. For me, being thin is effortless and not really intentional. I have to presume that being fat is the same for them. I never eat fast food because I don't like it very much, and it is hugely expensive. I rarely eat chips or soda for similar reasons. I think it is just the way I was raised. I don't like many of the things that have contributed to the national epidemic of obeisety.

This is not to say I don't eat allot, and sometimes really splurge. I just got through 3/4 lb of bacon, 2 eggs with salsa and a couple pieces of toast, and I'm STILL hungry! I'm not even growing anymore.

I was gonna use the *sarcasm color, but most people agree that it destroys the spirit of the joke itself. If i do NOT use the *sarcasm color on a post directed at you that is meant to be sarcastic, It's a complement to your intellect, because i think you're good enough to get it.

I think it is just the way I was raised.
That phrase captures the essence of the reason why you're healthy and slim. You owe it to your parents and their good sense when they raised you with healthy habits.

...although 3% body fat is a bit too thin.

I never eat fast food because I don't like it very much
For the past half a year to a year I have really cut down on the c**p
that I eat. My mum ordered a pizza last night from a place called
dominos and I felt really sick

You say that like it's an uncommon place! Well, maybe it is in Britain, but around here both Domino's and Pizza Hut are ubiquitous symbols of greasy baked cardboard. But maybe you were bing sarcastic, and I'm just dense.

I usualy get kind of sick from things like that as well. I have no idea how my body tolerated eating a whole package of bacon in one day!

I pause for a pizza - I don't eat it, I just order it to prove I'm still in control.
