I believe Lep said that the web site is now hosted on a different computer. Well, I can definitely feel the difference. Everything loads a lot slower, and sometimes the website even becomes unresponsive.
Is this going to be a permanent issue?

I think if someone feels up to it, a real time chat thing would be kinda cool. Otherwise you need to wait to see a response. Just a thought...

They've been doing things with the servers the last few weeks; today it seems lovely and fast and hopefully it'll stay this way from now on

Not a complaint or bug or anything:
The first time I tried out the "random profile" button, the random profile that came up was for the user 'Random'. Just a strange coincidence.

When posting news on the site and associating it with a map, it would
be nice if the drop down list of maps was sorted by game. I have 2 maps
called "echo", and as they aren't differentiated from one another I
wouldn't know which to post news about.

And hopefully the spinkee new post reply/edit thingy is working too...
<div class="abouttext">Message submitted 1 minutes after original post:</b></div>
Huzzah, it is! No more annoying n00bs posting a minute after their original without realising there's an edit button!

For some reason my replies to the "useful free apps" thread aren't
working - I fill in the box, hit submit, and it reloads the page
without having added my post  I'm using Firefox.

I'm using Opera and having a similar problem. I made a post but wanted to edit it, so I went to edit and anything I typed wouldn't appear in my message after I edited.

I have the same problem with that particular thread. Everything else seems to be working fine. I thought the problem is just with my computer at work, but apparently it's a Pit-wide problem.
I was so frustrated with posting it that after three failed attempts, I gave up posting.
P.S. By the way, I am using IE 5.5 at work (I can't convince the IT people to upgrade this ancient browser).

The problem happened again with another thread. And now when I
hit "back" on the browser, even the topic and description
disappeared. Something is wrong with the server, I just know it.

You have no need to apologise for any bugs Lep, the site runs a lot
smoother that most, and any issues that do arise are always sorted.
I was just thinking it might be nice to have a forum for the server.
Would be useful for suggestions for additions to the map rotation,
setting changes, organising matches/test nights, chatting about server
performance issues, talk about how awesome last night's Snarkpit vs.
TWHL battle was, and so on. If a forum seems like overkill, it could be
cool to have a sticky or two in general banter - Server suggestions,
and server chat (or something of the sort).

You've no need to apolgise for any bugs Lep; s**t happens, and you normally sort it out quicker than anybody could hope for.
And about the TWHL thing, it hasn't happened, I was merely making examples of the sorta thing a forum could be used for

I agree with reno, there should be a separate forum for the new server,
just so the general board wont be cluttered with "OMG THAT F-ING ROCKED
LAST NIGHT ON THE SERVER!!!!!!!!!!!" or "GWIL PUT MY MAP ON YOUR
SERVER!!!"

Yeah lep maybe you should have separate sticky threads...because with
your new system that "forces" you to edit posts makes it hard for
someone to make a post in maps, and in the general banter separately:).

When you reply to yourself, it only turns it into an edit if you're posting within an hour of the original post- so if you are updating something, say, a day later, it will make a new post, as normal.

A small suggestion:
Since you implemented the "update notifier" thing, it'd be nice if the "last post" time was updated too if your post was the last one in the thread ... and moved up the index as if it were a new post.
I don't know if it does this with your "auto edit" feature, but it doesn't if you purposefully edit the last post in a thread.

That is a nice point Crono....or, unless it was too difficult, have the user choose which way he wants it displayed on his/her end (like the hotmail inbox).
Also...I think it might be a good idea to have at the bottom of every page a small link that takes you to the top of the page. Thats not a too 'out there' idea is it?

Yeah, I've been thinking about allowing people to define how times are displayed here. (Who knows, in this digitial era day the concept of "6pm" might disappear and be replaced with "3 minutes ago" and "2 days until"!). But the post-edit-thing only happens if you post within an hour of the original post; if you come back to a thread days later it'll work as before.
As for going up the page, you can press the Home button on your keyboard, but I'll put it in the bottom menu

I reckon there should be a search box in the "people" section that lets you quickly search for a user, as currently you need to go through the member list and find the right letter (or find through some other means, like look for a post of theres or something). Having a search box just like the one in the "maps" section would be ideal if you ask me.
(done- Lep.)

snarkpit has been loading at almost 56k speeds tonight.. server/host related, or my ISP?
methinks its not ISP cause its only the pit, although that is not proof positive. :

For some reason evertime I try and post a reply in one of the Snarkpit
Server thread chapters, the post just disappears and I end up in the
map suggestions chapter. It's really wierd and annoying the hell out of
me. No idea what the problem is.
EDIT: Don't know why but the darned thing is working again  .

I now can't actually VIEW the different chapters of the server thread,
let alone post in different ones  I click on them, and I just get
taken to the bottom of the first page of the "banter" chapter. Using
firefox, as always.

Also, Lep, could you make the chapters links bold if there are new posts in that chapter?

Is is possible to take that 'posteri nthe last 5 minutes" thing off the
multible chapter threads. I posted in banter then in theme on the
server thread and they both got lumped together in banter.

I'm using FireFox 1.0 at the moment. It was doing it with both replies.
I had to post in another area of the forums before it would allow me to
make a post in there. I noticed Reno had a similar problem with posts
going into the wrong chapter, thats also happened. Just now I can't
access Map Suggestions, I keep getting taken to the Banter chapter. It
seems to only be playing up in the Snarkpit Server Thread, I've had no
problems elsewhere in the site.

ARRGGGHHHHH!!!!! I was writing a long ass post and IE f------- closed the wondow, deleting all that I had written.
I gonna make this short and hope it makes sense. Inside of the quick reply section of when you are replying to the messege there is a link for BBCode and Images....which oddly link to the same place...which I think would be repetitive...but...that is more of a suggestion...not a bug...
Anyway...when the bbcode/images mini window is open, and I move the cursor back into the quick reply section of the window behind it, it automatically sends the bbcode/images window behind the quick reply window....before I even click anything...it just sends it to the back!

Dark Tree, in IE you should be able to click on 'restore lost post' to, er, restore what you were typing. I've also sorted out that cursor thing, and hopefully the chapter stuff to. It's causing a lot of problems coding wise, lots of niggly little bits I hadn't anticipated :/

Most other websites just use someone else's forum software or programs that are 'released' every few weeks. This is all my own custom stuff, and I want it to be the best godammed site on the internet, so of course I'm going to listen to what you say  BTW chapters are now bold if there's a new post in them.

I have a complaint of sorts, but am unsure if its me or i am missing something.
of late i have noticed that if a map commenting section is not going exactly how the author likes, he is swapping it for a forum comment.. this deletes all the previous comments. i have noticed that the people who commented before do not come back and reply again. this is making the map seem... better.
if this is the case it needs to be disabled. either you chose a forum reply, or a maps comment reply. you should not be allowed to switch midstream.
if i am mistaken, i apologize.
