Because obesity is quickly coming close to smoking in terms of how many it kills, I wonder when people will start being berrated about being fat like people are lectured for smoking.

I wonder if the slogan "No fat chicks" will become like a "No smoking" sing.

I don't care if someone is obese or not, but when I see all of those
lard-ass hippo-women walking around in leather minis and exposing their
wavy guts...makes me wanna PUKE.

Obesity is such a problem in America, but fortunately, I believe the attitude is changing.

There is a popular show called "The Biggest Loser", where a bunch of heavy people try to compete in losing the most amount of weight.

The show is actually quite educational, in that it addresses every aspect of a healthy lifestyle, including exercise, calorie-counting, and selecting a healthy menu. I am a big endorser.

This is a fallacy created by the ideals of people whom assume that because it is so where they live it must be so everywhere. You may be a Doctor, but I travel extensively and what I see clearly states to the contrary.

Obesity is on the rise in may areas in the US not to mention in certain races. Obesity is on the rise in the black sector as well as the Mexican. Certain regions of the US actually base their status on their body size. The opposite is also evident. Rich people can afford to be fat, and poor people cannot afford to not be in these areas.

The awareness of obesity is more evident today however.

i am highly athletic about 5'6'' and weigh in around 52
kilograms. so im pretty healthy! but infact when i was in Washington
over the summer i didnt see that many fat people. i saw a few kids who
were bigger but certainly not obese. i saw one or two huge adults but
for 60% of the American population supposedly overweight i didnt see
that many.
i definately think that Britain is catching up to the
US on the fat scale though. ive seen quite a few huge people since i
got back.

im going to assume that you never came near a room containing both a tv and a couch

I just saw an eight-year-old girl who's almost as wide as she is tall. In addition, she proudly carries a backpack wherever she goes. It's stuffed with cookies, twinkies, chocolate bars. She's constantly snacking from it. I think she believes that if she doesn't have a cookie every hour, she's going to die.

And the mother totally endorses this kind of behavior. It's so ridiculous and unbelievable that it's almost like a Monty Python joke.

I referred her and her mother to nutriton classes and ordered some blood tests for diabetes. She's a ticking time bomb.

Man, and I was worried about inducing diabetes when I entered the doughnut eating competition last year.

Some friends of mine used to drink a lot
of pop. Like a 12 pack or three a week. The weird thing is, they are
both positively skinny (at least one of them is. the other is just
rather small, but has no fat on him I'm certain). I heard about how
diabeetes is developed (too much sugar causing resistance to insulin)
and told them. I don't think they changed their soda drinking habbits
at all, but then that was three years ago. I don't think either of them
has much time for pop anymore.

I hate to admit it, but I am 100 pounds over weight.. I went to my
doctor, and said "hey DOC, im tired of being a fat ass, what can I do?"

he limited me to no more than 2500 cal. a day, said I need to drink
Green tea or water 8-12 times a day a full 8-12 oz glass. And told me
to eat a big breakfast and 2 small meals a day with a snack in
between them.. to train my body that it will get food and water all the
time, and to speed up my matabalisim. Its working I have already lost
11 piounds.. He also said I need to walk 1 mile a day.. im giving
myself a year to loose 50 pounds.. I think I can do it, and then I want
to loose as I start to work out and get beefcake.

Obesity isnt something only to America anymore. Obviously it isnt as bad here in europe from what i have seen of it, but it definately is getting worse.

Last week i was to a trip to england. For one the good was pretty damn fat and filling compared to waht i was used to. And the people in the streets looked in general fatter then here.

But to com back to your question, the big mass indeed laughs at america, but those whom think probably not.

My lord. Why is this such a big deal? how does this happen? I work at a school, and I see this sort of thing all the time. But if anyone tries to bring up the issue, it's considered rude and insensitive. It's not going to go away by ignoring it. The worst thing is that parents more often than not, do endorse this lifestyle, and live it themselves.
Perhaps instead of natural selection working by using other animals and diseases to bring down the weak, it has found a new mechanism more appropriate for the times. Instead of "Gustav got killed by wolves because he was stupid and was petting thier cubs," it's "Jimmy's not active enough and he eats too much."

Yeah, we've had so many things coming around in recent times, like mass obesity, a rise in Cancer, the start of AIDS. the massive comeback of STD's from EVIL FORNICATORS!

Autism is rising sharply, learning and behavioural disorders are on the rise as well.

Not only do we see these physical ailments, but we have mental ones as well. When is the last time you read an Anglo-Saxon Epic and heard about clinical depression, or stress/anxiety disorder...

If all of these diagnoses are real, then it would take a very strong person to survive all this crap.

The problem is that with modern science and the large tolerance movement, we have accepted such genetically inferior or diseased people, instead of shunning them like a caveman would. By doing this we allow them to get some, then they spread thier genes... Dang, homes.. we screwed.

I am taking care of a girl who is three years old, but only weighs 8 lb (3.6 kg). Yes, she is three years old, as in 36 months. And yes, that's 8 lb, as in the number between 7 and 9.

She was born with an enzyme deficiency that does not allow her to metabolize any carbohydrates. Currently, she's in a vegetative state. She does not respond to any external stimuli. She's fed through a tube that goes directly into her stomach.

If that doesn't make you depressed or ruin your day, I don't know what will.

In a word, "Yes"

I firmly believe that its a case by case situation however. Some people prematurely extinguish any chance for a recovery, and some people extend someones life far beyond and chance at all.

I also believe that if you have not actually had to deal with this ordeal that your opinions on it are almost as unimportant as it can actually get without truly saying. "STFU"

I know people whom have had to deal with this. I mean, actually having to make the decision :"Should they live, or die"

It is very disturbing for me to hear people drone on and on about what "They" would do, when they have never faced ending a loved ones life before. Its so surreal. These people make it sound like changing a defective lightbulb they are so cavalier about it.

I disagree with SpoolE too. Fat people are generally not lazy. However, they are typically misinformed on a healthy lifestyle and diet. They typically try to lose weight by fasting followed by binging. They typically select the wrong types of food. They typically like to skip meals (one of the worst way to have a healthy lifestyle).

If you skip meals, doesn't your body begin to go into "hibernation mode" or something like that (Have no idea what the actual name is) where it's preparing for a seemingly long time until you have nutrition again, so it hoards all you eat. Which makes you gain weight. At least that's how it was explained.

Pretty much the heathiest way you can eat is no big meals and snacking of course, all summing up to the proper amount of energy you typically burn in a day.

I'm slightly overweight, but it doesnt bother me. I walk for at least half an hour every weekday, I do stairclimbing and distance walking (there are lifts but I dont use them, and the bus stop is roughly 10min walk from uni). I guess I dont eat well, but meh.

Right now I'm only like 5 foot 9 inches and 145 pounds.

Hey, I was 5'9 and 145 my senior year. Then i gained 40lbs in my first 2 years of college.

Congrats to me, I lost 20lbs so far. on the "Don't freakin' eat so much" diet.
