Okay, our IRC channel is going dead. we need more people to make it fun again. It used to be that people would chat at all hours of the day and night and there was always something great going on. Now it seems that nobody is there except some idlers and a few talkers.

So, snarkpitter! Go to http://www.mirc.com and download MIRC! then connect to a random quakenet.org server and join #snarkpit!

post questions here if you have trouble.

IRC? What IRC?

I've only ever once or twice been on an IRC. Not my taste at all. So what's the fun about it then? A mass msn-like chat or such?

What was spoken about then bytheway? Mapping subjects or just anything?

Most of the people who aren't 'one login wonders' with a single mapping
question generally join the channel once in a while, and it hardly
kills to stay in the same room for a length of time. How else can we
make fun of Nickleplate's freakishly big face?

It used to be that if I was mapping or modelling or whatever I'd just
pop IRC on my second monitor and chat when the mood took me, but at the
moment I'm on a single monitor and haven't done any game dev "work" in
ages, so my past IRC frequenting times have been cut down to nil. I'll
try and get back into the habit

I used to stop by and hang out and I ended up getting to know one or two pitters much better.

But alas, I can't connect to IRC here at college, because of something they've done with the network.

It's like a multiperson MSN chat, mixed with the General Banter board. You can talk about anything. It's much more fun when more ppl are on.

As I said before, I'm quite literally blocked off of, specifially, Quakenet because of my ISP postfix on my IP. Pretty stupid ... I guess a lot of people are spamming through comcast.net email addresses or connections or something. (And there's no way to port that server thing in chatzilla that I can find)

I could try with FF though.

Please do, crono.

RS6, try changing the port you're connecting with. they may have just blocked that port.

Didn't work. And the indentity server they suggest they wont respond to ... I don't think there's an easy way for me to get in unless I install a completley new IRC client ... which I'm not doing.

Real time chats tend to also attract real time idiots. Trying to have an adult conversation is nearly impossible most times. Cutting loose and enjoying oneself is a good thing, but stupid is universally frowned upon and I have a fairly strict sense of what is and what is not stupid. I prefer forums. The post is usually around long enough for multiple people to read, and remembered. Especially if its stupid. People can usually run those types off. Chats, if you do not have someone willing to kick them, the chat sucks.

Anyway, I prefer forums.

It is possible to have an adult conversation. But only when most of the idiots went to bed

With 24 time zones, and many of them with land masses beneath them how would you ascertain which is bed time for said idiots?

The problem is, many do not truly realize how irritating they can be or even that they are being annoying. In fact, most times when one points out the uncouth in the crowd the one pointing them out invariably becomes the target of much abuse. In most cases it never becomes an issue until someone points them out.

Anyway, I am curious as to how you breach the time zones?

Hard to tell. Mostly the IRC users split into EU and USA. In general
I'm not talking much when there is something going on. So I'd say I
wait 'till other users sign on.

And then we start to talk about stuff that is so intellectual all the other users just fall asleep.

The thing is: I just don't really talk as long there is nothing serious going on. (I have other things to do.

I think I'll add the ones I like to talk to msn eventually and talk
more over msn if there's a lot of annoying users around then, but so
far my first experience with Snarkpit IRC has been a good one.

In some sense it's just like forums but then faster and more
interactive. Comments tend to get lost now and then when it's crowded,
subjects aren't really running in multiple threads and that's maybe a
weak point of IRC from my point of view. Other than that, it can be
really nice at times I think.

There is always the benefit of knowing that if the offensive member is also a Snarkpit member you can ridicule them in here.

Seriously, I was just giving you a hard time. Not all chats are bad, especially the semi-private ones.

I had a brief but nice chat with Nickleplate last night. It's quite different from the forum. The responses are a lot more spontaneous, which can be good and bad simultaneously.

THat's what i said about your mom's mouth...

IRC and forums are a lot alike. #snarkpit is like the whole gen. banter forum and PM system put into one. Also, You can do private messages with people like Dr. Courtney (Satchmo) and I did. There's plenty of stuff to do: you can send files, visit other rooms. (there's about 50,000 or more of them last I saw) You can harass ppl, make fun of minorities and the mentally retarded. You can dis Hugh's mom in real-time, and lay some zingers on Windows98 (we love you little fella). I always liked IRC but it was so dead a little while back. I just hope that more ppl realize what it is and that it exists now. It's fun.

Crono: surely, you of all people should be able to get IRC to connect, Mr. MasterTech. :leper: Hurry up and join the fun.

True. It might be funny; but it's a hoax, too.
Never try to be perfect - just try it and make the best out of it

Aww don't worry, we're not laughing at you in a mean way... You're more like Screech from Saved By The Bell, you're a funny little guy that goes to "Snarkpit High School" with us.

I'm not really being mean, I'm just kinda poking fun at the fact that you used to post HORRIBLE topics all the time. It'll be a while before you can escape that.
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

My all-time-favorites:

<Myrk> like Baywatch, Pam may go to hospital with a boob injury
or something, but we know she will always pull through fine

<gwil> i just kicked one of the stairs really hard and strubbed my toe to f*ck

<Monqui> thought I needed help, but I don't, because I'm a goddamn genius

<Mephs> slander would be like public speaking wouldnt it?

<Monqui> public speaking/news cast

<Monqui> and it's only slander if the statements are false

<Monqui> so, if you rape sheep for fun, and I call you a sheep
rapist, then it's not slander, although it does do damage to you

<Monqui> BUT if you didn't rape sheep, then it would be slander
 • gwil humps Campaignjunkies leg
<Campaignjunkie> Ahh that's better

<Monqui> ...

Aahhh ... quality times.
