Yeah, my taste doesnt lie with fantasy, thats that. And I meant what I said in a joky sort of way, not serisiously. I just mean I live out in the sticks in the depth of a African jungle looking after 5 elephants and 9 lions, in a starving village next to a disease infested river.
Hahaha! Im using the INTERNET!

What are people looking forward too?
Me:
Okami
Persona 3
Super Paper Mario (This sounds really great)
Twilight Princess
Gears of War (If it comes out on PC  )
And, of course, Crysis.
(You could probably through in the bulk of the Wii lineup too  I hope Nintendo names a price soon. A tag as low as $130 would be amazing. Buy a Wii and DS cheaper than a 360 ... buy a Wii, DS, and 360 all cheaper than a PS3)
Also, KFS, I think, unless you played the demo on the floor at E3, if you saw the ign videos or something, those seem very unrepresentational of the game in regards to gameplay, because of the way that person plays. I know that was an reviewer, for example, because he described everything he tried to do (lure guards over to the jeep and shoot the tank to make it explode, or whatever)
But if you noticed, most people don't play FPS' like that. He just stood there and got shot and shot in return. Boring. I doubt the full gameplay is like that. The ship deck did look sort of boring in that there isn't much going on, but, it may be an introduction level or something, I thought the giant robot alien monster was awesome enough. But who knows? (I could be completly wrong, of course)
I think the largest downside to Crysis is the OS it'll require: Vista
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Vista :O
Im not gonna get vista untill I get a new PC (In a good few years time) because bying a OS by itself cost the same amount as a good graphics card.
Hahaha! Im using the INTERNET!

I watched a an off screen video of red steel and while the game does look fun the animations were nothing like the trailer shown on the official website. They used ragdoll physics which was a little disapointing. I think I might end up buying an Xbox 360. So far it has the largest and most promising line up of games out of all 3 consoles. I'm also extremely excited about the new Turok game coming out.
P.S. Does anyone remember the Phantom console that was suppose to come out? I laugh when I think about that thing. I feel sorry for anyone who put investments into the company that was develloping the thing.

I played Red STeel this morning....
The line, just to get into the Nintendo area was 2.5 hours long  . Then, once inside, it was a 30-45 min wait to play any of the games. I picked Red Steel, and in hindsight wish I would have picked Metroid (I really wanted to try an fps with the Wii).
I expected the controlls to feel somewhat intuitive, but I was wrong. Character movement was controlled by the left 'Nunchuck', while aiming was controlled with the wand. This felt somewhat akward, and I certainly didn't get to any level of accuracy or adequate control within the 5 minutes I got to play. I was constantly losing my reticule and getting generally screwed up between movement and aim. I found myself wildly swinging my Wii around when trying to target guys.
The sword fighting was somewhat cool (although too short) - right stick controlled swing, left stick allowed you to block by holding up your arm (left controller has some type of gyroscope also). I wish there would have been more sword fighting, as it seemed to be the most interesting mechanic.
If I had to choose right now, between playign that game with a normal controller, or the Wii, i would have to go with the standard controller. Of course it's really hard for me to judge things based on such short demo. Who knows, the aiming mechanic could possibly be tweaked and end up feeling very good.. Personally, I would have loved to up the movement speed and tone down the aiming sensitivity.
I'll still be buying the system and trying out all the games.

I am still fuming.. Such disrespect and acting so caviler about it as if, the parents are the one with the issue/problem.
Kids these days, or any days for that matter make me wanna slap them silly.
I just hope, I actually wish them to have children just.... like....themselves.
The best part is, they most likely will. Poetic justice is so freaking unbiased.

The thread seems to have derailed somewhat (again),
So I was standing in starbucks, when two fellows came in wearing event passes to E3.We chatted up a bit about the vendors booths, who's job it was to assemble and then dis-assemble them. Then in the same trip I get on the freeway only to be passed by 3 big black vans with "E3 guest bus" written on the sides. Oh I got to go 2 years in a row, but I've lost my ticket contact. So close and yet so far.
Woe is me.
So Finger, or Squirrel. Overall consensus on this years E3 seems to be
Sony-bad
Microsoft-good
Console games- good
PC games- so so?
Is this what I am gleening from your comments?

Duncan, I can rest comfortably with 2 thoughts.
You have foresight, I have hindsight. We both know which has more percentile chance of being the most accurate.
I, plan on going no where. I, have known you for a while now. I, trust that when you finally see my point, that you will courageously say so. No matter when in the future this revelation occurs.
Till then, subject dropped.
Back on topic: What location or locations do they have these displays? Is E3 just a California event?

Microsoft is kicking some serious ass this E3 with the Xbox 360. So far that console seems to have the largest and most promising game line up yet. There have also been some really cool presentations for Xbox Live including the online play in Warhammer: Online between the guys on PC and Xbox 360. Rainbow 6: Las Vegas, Dead Rising, Stranglehold, Halo 3, Turok, Huxley, Bioshock, Gears of War, Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway, Mass Effect, and Splinter Cell Double Agent are some games to look forward to for the 360. I seriously doubted the 360 when it was first launched but now seeing what's coming out for it it'll be very hard for me not to buy one.
Don't worry Orpheus, there's a ton of stuff coming out for PC aswell. However most of the big stuff is going to require you to buy a new PC. If you plan to play Crysis or UT 2007 then you'll probably need one of those robot cities from The Matrix to run the games.

Yes the mouth has some problems. Mostly I think its a shadowing problem. You see they have mapped out all the facial muscles, but theres something missing, like a minute shadowing which occurs around the mouth and teeth when a person talks. This lack of shadowing makes for a rigid and unreal facial expression. You notice that they have gotten some pretty believable emoting from the lower mouth and chin muscles. Its the upper lip where the problem lies.
still though, damn fine tech demo.

From the look of it it seems they motion captured everything VERY well ... except her mouth. They should have done that when getting the voice over.
The hair was physics.
it looks like they planned on animating the lips on their own without motion capture ... and they just haven't gotten to it or something.
Other than that it was really nice. My animation major buddies tell me working with motion capture as an animator is a nightmare.
While it is very nice to look at and seems like an interesting game (if it really is one!) The movement isn't really all that impressive. You've been seeing this type of work in films for a while. Most notably in recent years King Kong.
It's nice to see it work in more games besides Metal Gear Solid, but doesn't make it incredibly impressive. If it weren't motion captured ... that'd be a different story.
Still cool though.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Didn't really pay much attention to E3 this year for some reason. I'm pretty stoked about ET: Quake Wars, from the trailers it looks like a sort of "Battlfield Quake." I honestly think that's one of the best online FPS ideas ever. I just hope the net code makes it playable for FPS fans who like accuracy, not just vehicles and big maps...
And I think Heavy Rain was just a tech demo.

Speaking of tech-demo graphics. Anyone heared of the next game from the creators of Max Payne? It also has a guy's name in the title ( "Alan Wake" if I remember correctly) and seems to be a very open, adventure/horror game (like Trespasser done well and with a good story). I expected to see something in the E3 news this year.

lol I remember Trespasser. That game was so bad. It was fun to turn on god mode and beat the dinosaurs to death with the baseball bat.
The Alan Wake trailer didn't tell me anything about the game. I hate trailers like that  . Nice graphics though.
OTT:
Vista in its current form is like ME, really really buggy. But I'm at least hoping it will be better than XP (not that there's a whole lot wrong with XP SP2). Just turn off the Aero theme. Aero = useless crap. Same with Luna. (I run the windows classic theme btw)

Don't know, I didn't feel it. The voice sounded all off and she looked incredibly bad.
I have been thoroughly unimpressed.

You've hit the nail on the head. The 'uncanny valley' syndrome is very obvious with alot of the 'next gen' games and even animated films like the first Final Fantasy movie. Honestly, I think this kind of problem will eventually be dealt with in the same fashion that say, textures, are dealt with nowdays. At some point, people realized that hand drawing realistic textures was just not the optimal approach - hence, photo-reference. People got good at manipulating raw image of actual things. Games will probably end up doing the same thing, with the little nuances of emotion being captured from real actors and mapped onto 3d characters (similar to the way Kong was created). Right now, there are some procedural methods, like the way Valve did their lip-sync, but even that is far from perfect. Imagine if you could project even the tiniest facial twitch from your face, to a 3d model. This is the kind of technology we need to bridge the uncanny valley. In the end, though, it all comes down to actors or animators giving performances and breathing life into the characters - the way it always has.
Btw - I was moved by this performance and am excited to see what becomes of the project. Indigo Prophecy was a very interesting game.
