Personally, sounds like they're really gonna f**k it up. I'll wait for FF.

are there any screen shots of movies? or are we all jumping to conclusions? Though sounds like they arn't going elaborate on the dead TF2, which is a shame... but at the same time it would just be a less impressive BF2. This may turn out to be a good thing, if I were FF I would be a little bit worried. Though FF has the support of the hardcore TF community.

There's no jumping to conclusions, the assertions about graphics and
style are straight from Valve. Those TF2 videos from many moons ago
have always been make believe and now confirmed as just that. It's
going to be cartoon esque, i'm thinking in the style of XIII or similar.
TF2 will attract a different market - the real hardcore believers in
the TFC "brand" will play FF, i'd wager. It's closer to the mod we know
and love, and I for one expect it to be my preferred option of the two.

The prob with TF is there is nothing to it that would make it a top draw title for Valve anymore. 5 years ago maybe, but with the likes of Battlefield 2 doing what, one assumes, TF2 was gonna do when it was originally announced, they would have to do something pretty damn good to make it a top title. Seeing as this is purely a add-on now as well (probably to make Ep2 a more financially viable purchase), I'm not holding on to too much hope that it will be anything special like what was originally envisaged...<br style="color: white;">

Ugh. I prefer the look of the oldschool models of TFC.
Can we all say, "Toy Fortress 2"?
Edit: I'm refering to the TF2 image, not Fishy's models

Looks awesome.

I was extremely skeptical, but that picture has got me interested. It also makes sure that FF and TF2 won't be the same thing, so hopefully this won't affect FF too much.

I looked closer and the picture is - indeed - a render!
I must say I love what I heared over the last two days. Episode 2 + TF2(!!! !!! !!!) + a game called "Portal" by the end of the year. All in one package. How cool is that?
I had fears long time ago, when Valve announced TF2 as something rather realistic, bringing example for DOD-ish gameplay. Now this looks much more like what I hoped for. A TF that's about fun, rocket-jumping and absurd, action-oriented combat.
Also there seems to ship a lot of new technology with E2 including soft particles and some physics upgrades. I honestly can't wait. This is looking so good and so much better than I could have dreamed.

From what I read on the SC boards, there's a video of it due next week. I'm really skeptical of it right now, but I'll probably hold off until that vid to pass any huge judgements.

wow that looks great, I doubt that it will e received well by "real" fans but for people like me who had fun with TF every once in a while I think this will be golden.
Again, I'm happy with the direction of valve

Wow holy s**t. I'm floored.
I was certain TF2 was dead. This is such a pleasant suprise!
I'll definitely download FF when it comes out, but I'm also definitely buying Ep2 now (and maybe even Ep1 so Ep2 makes sense).
Great new direction, great art style, great value in the Ep2 package.
If Valve wasn't owned by VU I would invest in them directly.
f**k. Wow. This seriously does look like getting to play an amazing pixar movie... I'm pumped for the Engy

I believe they're doing this with the japanese version of counter-strike in mind.
Looks...cute, TBH.

The new Art direction looks great, and perhaps more likely to pull in new punters. Will be interesting though to see if the actual gameplay has also been made more accessable to new players (perhaps to the detriment of the old TFC community?) FF may happily sit side-by-side with TF2 after all.

More "accessible"? Let's hope that's not a priority. This trend for "accessability" brought games to a point where the player has little to do - except for pressing "forward" when the game tells you, measuring how quickly you pressed the button and returning a score...
I'm curious what the map design will look like. These character's arms are huge in proportion. I hope it doesn't get too mannered.

Glass, I'd figure the textures will be alot more flatshaded. The lighting engine is probably alot different too, although I think that would be handled by the engine.
which may mean the mapper will have to tackle lighting a bit different

Yeah, I'm glad they took it in a new direction.
I remember salivating over the TF2 videos when they were first released.

I read rumors about some new kind of "dynamic lighting" or shadowing also.
Realistically, it will just be an enhanced version of the current model. Still it's about time for the Source engine to introduce real-time lighting. What I've seen from the CryTek2-engine (new version of the FarCry-engine) real soft shadows and even a form of radiostiy is already possible with the more advanced cards. Especially the radiosity part makes me interested. It looks like Valve's atmosphere over tech-demo arguments are getting unsubstantial.

that TF2 pic really made me feel like getting Ep2 too.
though i don't think it will be funny to shot at those cool new models... but
Oh and i hope they blow up in little pieces like in the normal TFC.
TFC without blowing up models = boring.
when will Ep2 be out?
by the way, i'm confused because there is this title Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of arms.
i saw some pics of it and it's more like CS than like HL. i thought that was gonna be TF2 (but when i loaded steam and saw the pic i was like OMG YEAH!).
and why some of you mention FF? Final Fantasy?

I guess, no matter how much the FF team assured that they know about TF2 being a competition I think they always had a more DOD-ish version of TF2 in mind that is closer to what we heared years ago. It looks like the 9 classes and general flow will remain unchanged now. Possibly even most of the weapons. The 2 mods will be more similar than expected.
A release date in early August gives the FF team some advantage, though
