Thanks, morph  Yeah, done with these more or less. I'll keep your suggestions in mind for whatever happens next.. and yeah, I regret the lens flare on the blood-red one. Gosh, I should just respond to each point quickly..

Earth: Well, I didn't paint the texture... The textures are from.. hmm.. NASA or Visible Earth or something like that, I just set up the material to use certain layers of it as well as a nice shadow-casting cloud layer.

Explosion: Still frame (tweaked, though) of an animation I did. Maybe it would work better without the random pieces, good thought...

Seascapes: Yeah, these used the Dreamscape plugin, and I learned more about it each time I did a new one.. first I just kind of started messing around but by the latter ones I had learned a lot about it. Skyboxes, hmm.. I think dreamscape will let you render out the sky, yeah. Or did you mean also with the water? I could set up six cameras and render out each needed frame... and as for the 5th one, yes, that's my favorite of these.. I've been using it as a desktop for a few months now. Ah, is the sig brightish? I guess it kinda stands out..

Thanks for all your comments. Cool to get more than just map advice here!

Is that explosion voxel based? Or did you do it with microdisplacements
or what? So many features missing from my favorite modeling suite...
Looking very good though I liked the seascapes quite a bit.

Thanks, Scythe;

No, the explosion is completely volumetric, created with a 3dsmax plugin called Afterburn (see www.afterworks.com).

So it is voxel based(voxel is a sort of a 3D pixel, used in fluid
simulations(term fluid includes smoke, fire, liquid, etc.). I read an
intresting SIGGRAPH article about it some time ago. Or actually the
article was mostly about simulating chemical reactions like ice melting
and paper burning and such.

I think the stuff is in
here. I found the
link from one of the threads at elysiun(now blenderartist forum), which
was about making a better voxel system to make it possible for people
to make fire and smoke simulators in Blender.

Nope, it's just pure volumetrics.. I've seen a couple plugins that generate flames using voxels, but I don't imagine it'd work this well here. In fact maybe you'd like to take a look at the Wikipedia article I wrote for it.

Quite a cool link, BTW. Just today in fact I visited the Afterworks site for the first time in a while and they've announced a new plugin that looks incredibly cool. No details yet but there are three videos all of which look incredible; dancing fire as realistic as I've ever seen it computer-generated, smoke literally pouring inside a box, and a really cool video of a torus ablaze, with the fire seamlessly transitioning into beautiful smoke. It looks really great, have a look.

Volumetric particles, all I can say that I'm really impressed. I'll

Nice texture the only thing I would watch is the small red blotch in the lower right hand corner, that may look bad when tiled, however everything else looks great.

Modeling in Silo (30-day trial =/), gonna use Maya for tweaking and UVs and normal map. Once it's finished I'll compile it to replace the combine soldier in HL2.

The concept (800 x 731 238K) is by Blake Lowry.

One of my attempts at some structural prop modelling, using Blender. Its a pretty quick job, an old arch/entrance, about 2-3 hours including time spent making the skin and normal map.

I'm still learning how to do it all, but with the need to make your own props for custom mapping it seems like a good idea.

Enjoy.

Just an oriental-style wooden footbridge. 712 tris at full detail, I'll probably be able to get it well below 500 for the LOD model. The texture is still WIP.

Edit: The model fits over a 256 unit gap (as in the ingame screenshot), and is 192 units wide.

I made this yesterday to try out a method for eliminating texture seems that I saw on Gamasutra, as well as using quads with an alpha opacity pass for round stuff. As a collection of cylinders it's pretty straightforward to lay out the UVs for. I'm planning to put some blood and gore in the texture, so I think it'll look pretty cool once it's done

'Hell Chick 2.0' (concept by Paul Richards); WIP in Maya for Mudbox SubD
I found a model sheet for a cyborg succubus character while browsing the portfolio of a concept artist who worked with Raven on Quake 4, this is my attempt at his Hell Chick concept. I'm targeting 'next-gen' games with this model; this will be the SubDiv mesh for detailing in Mudbox, the final in-game mesh will likely be somewhat lighter on the polys. This is also serving as a figure study of sorts, to get a feel for edge loops and whatnot.

EDIT: jeez, what a bunch of prudes at photobucket
