Don't know if I said this in the old thread, but I watched 'Thank You For Smoking', which was a really funny movie.
I watched 'Death of a President' today too, which is basically a documentary of the unsolved murder of President Bush in October 2007. It's put together really well and covers all the religious/political stuff, and is a spectacularly well made movie.
Yesterday I watched 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan'. Basically one big hilarious jew joke.

The Prestige is excellent. It requires thought, so, if you don't like thinking or get confused easily (wont say any names) don't bother with this gorgeous film.

Recently watched all the existing episodes of the US version of The Office and you know...I actually prefer it. The UK version was more smartly/better written but I think because this US version has extra episodes and includes other characters more, I've kinda got more attached to them than in the original. Its become more sitcom-esque in that respect.

Just watched the uncut version of Hostel. Now, I can understand the 'hype' around this movie, but a movie that relies more on "shockvalue" than on plot isn't going to be remembered by anyone after a few years.
Oh and I think these guys pretty-much nuked Slovakia's (?) tourism industry.

Watched Casino Royale today. I quite liked it, not as much as I thought I would but I had sorta built it up in my head beforehand (everyone was saying how it would be rubbish and I had convinced myself it would be great). Daniel Craig seemed really good but he didnt really have a chance to put on a true Bond performance given the structure and theme of the plot. I hope he gets a more traditional Bond style storyline to work with next time. At the very least it was refreshing to depart from the shallow, flashy previous films like Die Another Day.

Just watched SawIII this morning. The already tired theme aside, is it just me or does the ending leave room for a SawIV? God help us.

It will crash and burn imo. The first in the series relied mostly on shock-value. But it's no longer shocking when we've already had SawI, II and III and the boorish Hostel (which I hear will have a sequel too).

Watched the Da Vinci code yesterday. Wasn't as thrilling as I expected, but it also wasn't no slouch either.
If you haven't seen it yet, do so.

If I search for "recently" it doesn't show up.
Actually, I tried recently, and recently watched.. (because I couldn't remember if it was two or 2 and it didn't show up.

had to watch the entire series "Fawlty Towers" on DVD.

Fawlty Towers is awesome even if you don't like Cleese.

i haven't watched Da Vinci code, i consider it a great book, even though i'm Catholic, it's funny the Catholic church never expressed outrage over this novel and it should have pissed us off more than Baptists, maybe we just understand fiction
anyway, i refuse to watch the movie because i'm too suspicious it will ruin a great book

I started watching Borat the other day, got about 40 minutes and I hadn't laughed once. Over hyped in my opinion.

That's just it! His humor is based on stereotypes. We have the stereotypical Kazakhstani terrorist child, the stereotypical unwashed villagers, the stereotypical foreigner (because people from countries ending in -stan couldn't possibly comprehend western lifestyle) etc.
I dunno. Just not my kind of funny.

I think Sacha Baron Cohen has missed his own point in what he was
trying to achieve. From most of the opinions i've gauged in Britain,
people are laughing at the stereotypes and mimicking them.
They're not laughing at how inanely racist/anti semitic/sexist
people are shown to be, they're laughing because their own inner
bigotry is being indulged. Only the critics laud it for being some kind
of pseudo exposure of ingrained attitudes toward minority/persecuted
groups, most people find it funny because they enjoy laughing at the
notion of evil jews, prostitutes in cages or whatever else. The movie
has gone too far, and created a new wave of hate toward minority groups
IMO. When he was Borat way back on the 11 O Clock Show, I think it was,
there was only mention of the typical "we kill the bear" "i had a nice
sheeeet" and so forth. The one trick pony model of Ali G has been
carried on again into Borat. After a few months his jokes become old,
he plays up some newer, more offensive ones and passes it off as clever.
In reality he's serving the bigots the finest brainwashing ammunition they could ever dream of.
