I'm thinking that the release data will more or less be the same everywhere, give or take a week. I know games tend to be released on Fridays in the UK and that might be different in the US etc. but taking that into account, I don't think we'll see the month(s) difference with other titles like Deus Ex 2.

you guys when they send it to the publisher, they're not testing it, its a finished product, they're sending it to them to see if its something they will willingly support. Making sure there aren't women being raped in the game or something as such, once they okay it, it'll be printed and you'll have a copy in your hands about 3 weeks from then. I think the november release is the most plausable.

October seems most likely. There was a post on Vivendi forums from a developer or mod, who said that vivendi will have an intensive 72-hour testing period. If the RC is accepted, the game should apparently reach stores within two weeks of the GOld date. I don't see hy holding back a game until November will help, especially since it will face more competition. There isn't really much being released in october, so it makes more sense.

/me prays for those who still think it will come out in September

The release date I got from my EB store said mid november. In Canada most games tend to come out about a week later than they do in the US. Still, my vote is for December. I dont want to be too optomistic...

First off, the stores don't know s**t at this point, so ignore their dates.

Second off, there is going to be a simultanious worldwide release, so Canada won't get it any later than the US.

Here's some info from a couple of days ago:
from the vugames forums:
Creole Ned (Moderator) - 12:42pm Sep 16, 2004 PST

Valve has confirmed that they have sent a release candidate of Half-Life 2 to Vivendi Universal Games. If VUG approves this candidate the game will be declared gold and sent off for duplication.

Or to put it another way, barring any glaring showstopper bugs, Half-Life 2 is getting very close to release.
piotrr - 12:52pm Sep 16, 2004 PST (#1 of 9)
Don't drink and drive.

For 72 hours, VUG QA will test the RC for serious problems. If nothing serious is found within those 72 hours, the game will be sent to replication and could be sent to stores two weeks later. If, however, serious problems become evident, Valve will have to fix them and make sure they cause no new problems, and then send a new RC to VUG QA for AOK. TLA.

Unless, of course, my own experiences with VUG are drastically different from the special coddling treatment Valve are enjoying. Ah-hehm.

Don't drink and drive.

I forgot to add that the AVERAGE amount of RCs for a game is four. Some games have fewer, some have more, but to have the very first RC accepted is very, very rare.

Don't forget that HL only had one RC before it was released. There's a reason Valve spent all that time doing in-house testing.

Some time in November is my bet, I may be repeating what the game store say but 11/2..... Its seems like its a decent release date as this was the recent change, and Valve would just lose money if they delayed it again, an plus the pre loading is taking place, thats godda mean something.

But I will admit to the fact that Valve may just wait till Christmas to release the game. You know to bost sales durring the biggest shopping season around.

To boost sales they would release the game before Thanksgiving in the US, as the day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. It won't go any later than that.

I put down November 'cause October just seems too soonish for me, it doesn't really matter that the RC's been sent because, well, I just have the hunch in my loins that it'll be November. You'll see.

Halloween, 2004.
They wont release the game on a sunday.
Games and other home media are usually released on Tuesdays and the occational Wednesday.

However, HL2 could be different (Since everyone thinks its so special), but nothing is released on a Sunday, its the least profitable day of the week, unless you're a pancake house.

I'd like to be optimistic, but with this news that HL2 has gone to Vivendi for testing all hope has been dashed. I won a copy of CS: Condition Zero through a magazine (PCPowerPlay) 7 months ago and I'm still waiting for my copy. Vivendi still hadn't sent the copies to the mag for distribution to the contestant winners.

Possible dates (Reflected by other game/media release dates):

October:
26-27

November:
2-3
9-10
16-17
23-24
30

December:
1
7-8
14-15

I doubt it'll come out this year if it isn't out by the 15th of December, since Christmas is the following week. They may sell out like mad, but, that also means they'll have less people buying, since Chrismas will be over. If they ship it in November they'll have many many more sales, and it'll still probably be sold out during Christmas.

Or at least thats how it looks. I mean look at Doom 3. Around here, you couldn't get it unless you had it pre-ordered for the first week, since so many people pre-ordered it. And HL2 is MUCH more anticipated, since it has an insane amount of media coverage and 'hype' (not saying D3 didn't, but HL2 has much more)

I'm thinking it'll be our on November 16th or so. It seems to be the most reasonable release date.

Personally my thoughts about doom 3 didnt really please me in many ways. The game had hardly any storyline the theme was boring. It was to repetative. Now as for shadowing it was ok mostly because it covered up for the bad polyfaces they had all messed up. Not for the fact that most of the guys seem to have a line running down there face were the textures arent applied correctly. They should have spent more time on the game overall and took into consideration that most people want something more than dark corridors and spooky vents.

Is everyone forgeting that Doom 3 is an id game?? I mean, Jesus, what did you expect? Non-Repeditive play? Good story? ITS ID! They're the run n' gun masters.

I think the game is just fine the way it is, if it were anything that could compete with HL in story, it wouldn't have been made by who it was made by.

Not really since Doom 3 is pretty much exactly as I expected it would be. Granted it isn't Painkiller with better lighting, but, the game in general is still fun.

At least you guys have gotten over the whole choosing between HL2 and D3 thing. Because that was retarded.

I bet it'll be so much harder to map for, that only a few people will
be able to create anything worthy of downloading. Still, should be good
either way.

Mapping won't be harder as such - since it uses an updated version of Hammer you should already have a skill-set that is applicable to the new engine.

What will be harder and the stumbling block for many (including myself) will be creating props for the maps as with all the more recent engines, there is an over-reliance on 'static meshes'. Personally, I think i'll find it interesting to see how successfully I can complete a map without any meshes.

prepare yourselves:

Crono and I are about to agree..

I swear, if one more person bashes Doom III for being a doom game... doom is doom, expecting more is not only stupid, its ruining it for those whom love it..

It was a great game...to begin with - I found it got a little too repetitive towards the end. And it gave up on the whole suspense theme half-way through and just kept chucking respawning beasties at you.

Perfectly playable and enjoyable - just a little boring at times.

I think you're missing the point on D3. It wasn't a Doom game. Doom was fast paced, difficult, and had balls-to-the-walls action. None of these things describe D3.

Leave it to the French to ruin all our fun. If they do shut down steam I will not be pleased.
