i really didnt enjoy blue-shift very much. it was way too short, i mean five hour completion time. (well the second time round i completed it which contradicts what i have just said, but hell i was bored!)

Yeah, I'll replay it. Good 6 hours of entertainment. I really enjoyed
it because I beat it so quickly. And you don't need to have
bought silver/gold whatever before you can play. Just register
the key of your Half-Life 1 and you'll be able to get it

ReNo, it wouldn't be that bad if it really took 6 hours. It doesn't. It takes maybe 3. The most difficult adversary you encounter is marines. There is no end boss either.
I don't mind games that only take 5 to 6 hours (MGS, ICO)
Not to mention, they still haven't released the high-definition pack over steam, which Means I'd have to install BS somewhere to get the pack.
But, I already installed it and started running through it again. I think if you're ready for the disappointment of a short game and not much of a challenge, then you'll probably like it more.
Honestly, I'd rather have played a black-ops sp mod.
Speaking of let down endings ... Still Life ... what the f**k, man?

I never played it before, and I am just trying to finish HL1 for the first time right now.
I'll get to it.

Blue Shift was the only Half-Life universe game I never bought, so I very much look forward to downloading it for free.

Just downloaded it and played for half an hour... and got bored pretty
quick. I had forgotten how stale the gameplay seems. It's
just running around flipping levers and jumping obstacles while
vortigaunts spawn from nowhere.

Well that was some of the best gameplay money could buy back then.

The original Half-Life came out way before that, and it has excellent gameplay, even for today's standard.

                        I'm pretty
much with Nickelplate here. I never got accustomed to steam. It never was useful to me. And I didn't really enjoy Blue Shift. I couldn't develop an atmosphere to dive into.
Maybe I need to replay it some time in order to enjoy it.

I mean... I understand they are aliens but running into a room and
having vortigaunts spawn both in front of you and behind, over and over
and over again get's old pretty fast. Compared to HL1 and Op4 it
just didn't seem as fun.
Did anyone else notice how many clip brushes they used to keep you from
getting to places you couldnt? I miss the freedom of movement
(and ability to kill yourself by jumping off train platforms).
Also, the additional dialogue for Blue Shift seemed slowly spoken... as if the actors were comatose during recording.

Ah screw it.....Chumtoads Lair is in Xen....when you are crawling
through the crawl tunnels, you will pass through a room with a health
spa and a very deep pond. Sit in the 'spa' until you have 100% health
(you will need every % to get to the lair.) Then, jump into the pond
and go straight down, not stopping for the ammo you see on the side or
you'll drown. When you get to the bottom, search the walls for a small
crack (it may take you a few trys till you find it.) then hack away
with your crowbar a bunch of times....it will eventually give way so
you can swim through to the lair.
Have fun!

This was on Steam yesterday, but, I guess I'll put it up here if anyone is interested. The High-Definition Pack is (finally) being released on Steam. I believe they said it's coming out this week.

                        I saw that....too bad I already just played through it.....maybe I'll
just check it out to see what the models look like...I like the old
snarks though, not the weird egg pods.
Is this high def pack just for BS? Is there one for HL1 & Op4?

Wow, didn't even notice i got it. I'll maybe play it.............. maybe...
It sucked though, you never get to meet freeman, even though you're
barney, and in HL2 source he's all friendly to Gordon and claims to
have met him like he where some old friend? :S

God got tired waiting all sunday for the world to compile and finaly had it.
On the Eight day, god created func_details, and he saw that it was fast.

Different Barney. You also have to remember that in HL1 all the "barneys" you ran into shortly thereafter died. And you "see" Gordon plenty of times in BS. Of course they're not going to have him talk, because of Valve's stance on how "that would detract from placing you in Gordon's shoes", even though you're not playing as him in this game, it still stands, I suppose.
Also, remember that HL1 happens one day you come into work. The security guards (pre-accident) are quite friendly with you and know who you are.
Personally, I would have questioned the scientist characters and alien slaves more then anything else. But, it's just stuff they never talked about in hl1, so it's easily concievable.

The first Half Life is still my favorite game of all time. BS was alright but too short for me to enjoy a whole bunch.
There's nothing else like playing a great game like Half Life for the
first time. That first week that I bought Half Life were the best times
I've ever had playing a video game.
 Great story
 Great characters
 Great enemies
 Great Bosses
 Great ending
+Great levels

Quake 2 did it for me, I used to be scared s**tless of Tanks and stuff. Great game, but Quake IV will never match Quake 2  They can't even get the logo right ffs!

Yay, just completed blueshift, took me about two hours of straight gameplay

God got tired waiting all sunday for the world to compile and finaly had it.
On the Eight day, god created func_details, and he saw that it was fast.

I just finished Blue Shift yesterday. I still like it better than
Opposing Force. The style and layouts just feel more refined, and I
love some particular sequences and puzzles.
But what I enjoyed most of all though was how Dr. Rosenberg would
interact with the player/world so much: talk to you about the labs,
boost you out of the train car, activate lab machinery around you, etc.
It's kind of a precursor to the kind of interaction you see in HL2,
somewhat.

I don't give a rats ass, because I have it still in the gen pack. Maybe some day I will actually finish HL, BS and O4.

Some of the puzzles are absolutely fiendish though - particularly that
"move the barrel to connect the wire". That had me stumped for at least
half an hour.
