Germany looks nice, I like the height differences (Hollands is flat.
Just flat) and the nature overall, but also the cities. I've been in
Berlin, in the Rurh-Gebiet and on the Main-Donau canal so far. You know
any other good vacation spots?

I also have some German friends that I can get along with well. That
doesn't say anything about the total population but hey, I don't think
they're that bad...

I have very fond memories of Germany. I visited Munich and a
small town next to the Rhine in 1999, and I loved the country and the
people. One of my wife's best friend is engaged to a German, and
she's in Germany right now.

I understand the burden modern German carry about the Nazi past.
In fact, I had to defend a nurse with German ancestry in the ER last
weekend. Another nurse was making a comment about Germans being
"mean", and I jumped in and said "Some of the meanest people I know are
Chinese".

It's unfortunate that Germans get vilified in the media. Just
imagine computer games. In FPS games, it's justified to shoot
mutant monsters, savage beasts, aliens, and Nazi soldiers.
They're lumped together as some of the worst evil mankind has ever seen.

But why should modern Germans be blamed for the crime that they have no
control whatsoever? It's unfair, and people need to get over that.

Still not very popular over here, for obvious reasons. Germany has very
efficient tradesmen/builders in comparison to most countries though it
seems.

My only real preconception about Germany is that people there have
horrible fashion sense. But then that preconception comes from the
"learn german" programs on the BBC learning zone that were made about
20 years ago, so its to be expected  In all seriousness though, I've
never been and don't really have any opinions, good or bad, of the
country.

i'm 40 now, which some of you will think is old. maybe from your perspective it is, but the 40 years feel just the same to me as whatever your own total of days feels to you. my point being, that i was born within 20 years of the wars end. as a child, i thought that 20 years was almost an eternity, and that the war had been a long, long time ago. now i realise just how close '20 years ago' actually is. one day, god willing, you guys will too.

all i can say about modern germany is good beer, good football, and no sense of humour or good music.

Typically everybody is forced to learn a language at school, normally
either French and German (most of the time you are given the choice).
Most people don't seem to take it too seriously and drop it first
chance they get, but everyone will have to do a bit.

Ok what do I think about my own country:

99% of all online gamers are incredibly retarded

(I am the one who banned all german players from a server)

The government sucks arse

The government that is going to be elected sucks more

The bureaucracy here is horrible

(never try to found a company here)

The beer is good

The people here are media-controlled dumbf*cks

The legislation makes me cry

The weather sucks most

The unemployment just reaches 5 million out of 80 million people

The fuel is very very expensive (1.30 Euro per litre - ~60 Euro-Cent taxes)

Taxes are ultra-high in common
so overall I'D RATHER MOVE TO CANADA - THANKS.

Well, here in Belgium, when you drop "Germany", a lot of old people still start talking and joking about the war.

Germany itself is a fun country, I think, although I don't really like
the nature. A lot of almost-mountains. (I usually go to Austria for
mountain hiking)

But the people are friendly, and a lot of cities are impressive (Hannover, Berlin, Munchen).

There are a few cities considered very beautiful over here. As long as one is used to it he never recognises it. At least I don't. I live in one of the most decent and beautiful places in Germany; and tell you what: I don't care.

After the last world war there was one thing taken from Germany. National pride. Thats why there are 5M unemployed people around. Because nobody is keen on working in a country he isn't proud of.

I just was out for a walk. And I came to think about it. So far I realised: I'm not proud of being a German. But again: These days I ain't proud of anything.

Most of them are nice people, nice langua, beats french, and offcourse they have BMW.

The only thing that bothers me is that a few of them lack any respect for others.

2 weeks ago i was visiting camp Westerbork, some of you may know this as a deportation camp of jews, gays, and prisinors of the Germans in The Netherlands.

When i stood looking at the monument build for the 100.000 jews that got deported to auswitsch from here a car arived. It had a german number plate, i already though that this was queer since there was a hughe sign at the start of the road wich said there was no motorized traffic allowd, wich the explecition of the bus from the parking to the camp.

They even parked the car in the middle of the camp, they walked to the monument, a old lady was talking, couldnt understand about what they where talking, only the father of the family seemed interested, the other people looked bored and disrespectfull.

Eventualy they where gone before i finishd the walk through the camp. When thinking about it it still makes me angry, how can people be such jerks?

even though the old lady walked badly, she still walked faster then i was. And offcourse there is a hughe radio telescoop moving through a small bit of the camp, and each time a motorized vehicle passes it can distort the radio signals.

my 2 cents, though mind you, most germans arent like this. Those whom i met at work are respectfull and humble. They behave better then some countrymen do.

Where stewie and brian end up in germany and the yare taking a tour.
They are handed pamphlets that hav germany's histry and bran is like
"why is it just blank from 1935 to 1946?" and the tour guide is like
"NOTHING HAPPEND! WE WERE ON VACATION! WE WERE ALL SLEEPING! NO MORE
QUESTIONS" and brian then says "hey is that a bar? and the guy is like
"yes, we germans have best beer in the world".

Well... I would argue that many Americans think less of this country than the rest of the world does... it depends on whether you live in a red state or a blue. Any college campus you go to will be full of post-adolescent angst about how "evil" America is.

Now there you have a good example of how Americans might view Germans. I've just used a German word which is an entirely accepted part of our language.

Honestly, I think WWII jokes are hilarious in kind of a morbid way, and I have spent a large amount of time studying the history of the war, but that doesn't mean I hate Japs and Krauts. Probably a good quarter of the American populace can claim German ancestry, and we owe a very large portion of our culture to Martin Luther. I would argue that historically German culture has played a role in the formation of America second only to the English.

I don't know much about present day Germany, or any other country really. All the more reason to visit eventualy!
Some people are like slinkys...

They aren?t really good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one tumbles down the stairs.
