I worship no mapper, but that is a very good idea nonetheless! Back in the day I wanted to break out my first handful of unreleased and s**tty, s**tty maps to write some articles on how not to map and how to avoid the newbie mistakes, but then my harddrive was wiped clean by someone else.

Thanks  Yes, should let people upload example maps, never got round to it for some reason (probably having a subsystem to deal with the example maps, and what to do if they're rubbish etc.). A few weeks ago I went through a few tutorials and uploaded them locally, will have a fiddle with it next week.
And Ferret, that's quite a good idea but it could be hard to pull off well. It would have to be done on 'famous' maps that a lot of people have played and have comments from a few people on how certain areas work (or don't); maybe author's comments on how they'd change things would be better as footnotes. I can see a top-down image of the level, and having you click on the areas for comments and whatnot- maybe with connection/item placement overlays for it too with some cunning Javascript

How ever you can run it that would be awesome. You could write up a list of maps you want to test it on and then the level desingers could try to see if it would work maybe?

Postmortems would certainly be an excellent idea, I'd definately be all for writing a few. Reading postmortems of games in Game Developer or on Gamasutra is normally both a good read and enlightening on the game development process, and I've no doubts that the same could apply for level design.

The upload allowance? Can't change that my horribly mutilated amigo- although it's technically 50mb the upload is limited by your connection speed and PHP script timeouts... if you need any large files uploading then you can e-mail them to me and I'll upload them for you.

Horribly mutilated? Speak for yourself rot-face.
I don't think answered questions are being counted anymore, although I'm not 100% sure.
edit: They aren't.

Don't know if its already been mentioned or not (don't fancy reading the previous 41 pages!), but on the maps forum, when the map is tied to the author's profile, instead of listing the number of pages in the thread it just says 'intro'.
Minor niggle but annoying (to me)

It's a new feature adam where a thread can have multiple chapters.

Yes, but what if you want to go to the certain page of a chapter?! That's like 1-2 more clicks!

If you click on the snark instead of the thread title it takes you to the newest post...kinda a workaround?

Bleh, I'll just get rid of that 1st 2nd etc. thing, though you can still use ^ to superscript things.
Adam, it says 'intro' because those are chapter threads- hopefully soon they'll say things other than that. If you want to read new posts, just click on the snark icon next to the topic title.

Not really a bug ... But it seems your 'keeping the lewdness down' campaign doesn't quite work with signatures.
(Not picking on them) But I just noticed it since fizscy46's signature is uncensored.
Thought you'd like to know

Related problem, actually- the download link is a link back to the download link, which is a link back, etc. if you get what I mean, and it just circles round until PHP times out...

Bug: At the stat page, there is a part for "top tutorial". The link
doesn't seem to work ... and "2004 Mapping Competition" is not a
tutorial, either, I think.

Never gave me an error, but the page it went to after submitting was a blank page...
Might of just been the way my parents had the computer set up (Cause I know a lot of the interactive things are disabled on it)
EDIT: Now its saying my file, escalator.zip, isn't a .zip file when I submit it o_O...
Hmmm... Perhaps I should just not post it up. Let people find it on prefabland

Well, it is posting. But like before, no screenshot is appearing, and its not making a link to the file (But rather the main files folder).
So, screw it. I'm just wasting your time for my crappy escalator.

It's in the mechanism section
It uploaded once I moved the pic and zip file onto my base C drive.

I don't use prefabs, but if its the same as the one in your "Gman death" map, then it does look pretty nice judging from the screens

Yep, almost identical (I added a few more things to the one in the gman levels, but you can't see that in the screenies)

If you look on the features page, the "newest HL review" part lists Abstract Towers by author "?", even though in the review itself it lists the author as Loco.

Take a look at my "magazine letter" thread - on editting a post, I can't put in more than one line break in a row or it does nothing.
Just testing it works on new posts....apparently it does

I reckon there should be an option to rate a map in its thread in the
maps forum. A graphical represention of the score would be nice too for
example a colour bar ranging from red to green or simply one to five
snarks.
