Yep, my wife and I are expecting a child! Due date is currently right about Dec. 7th. It's a little scary, but definitely exciting.

Just doing the rounds on various forums to share the news...

Wow, major congratulations mate! All your past creations have been

 Do make sure you tend well to the mother to be, not that I think you
wouldn't of course

Hey, I'm kind of a new guy here but I just wanted to say
congratulations! That is truly awesome awesome news. Even
though I'm young I look forward to eventually settling down and
starting a family (maybe in 10 years or so when I hit 30). From
what I hear it's the most rewarding experience in life

Congrats again!

Thinking of any names or is it too early for that?

That's great. It is also ironic....my oldest brother just informed me two days ago that HIS wife is going to have their second (around late November/Early December).

Congrats, mate  :):)

Not ironic, just a coincidence.

I am assuming this is the first? Remember kids bounce. And Cheeper Diapers do the same thing as the more expensive ones. Keep an eye out for SIDS, dont let them sleep with teddy bears and the like.. also dont sleep with the baby in your bed.

Thats all the advice I have for now.. CONGRATS on the baby. you should get a shirt made for the wife or a bumber sticker for her jeans that says Baby On Board. =)

Congragulations. I've known other mappers who have recently had kids of their own. It seems odd that back when HL1 came out most of the mappers were in high school. Now they're having kids. The community has really grown through the years.

Using my new found skills in sewing and patterning I could constuct a soft toy crowbar, or a headcrab for the little fella!

Strange or not, it can be a great thing, if you try hard enough.

I got married at 19. I had my first born by 20, and my second by 25. I have been married since 1981, and am still married to the same woman. I still am in awe sometimes when I think "Next year will be my Silver anniversary"

September 5th, 1981.. a date which will live.. period.

careful you don't feel like that for too long Tracer, or you'll get to my age and all of a sudden feel too old.

on the subject of baby names, i've wondered about our very own Leperous, and whether 'Leper' was what he called himself as a baby. am i close?

<DIV class=quote>
<DIV class=quotetitle>? quoting Myrk-</DIV>
<DIV class=quotetext>Using my new found skills in sewing and patterning I could constuct a soft toy crowbar, or a headcrab for the little fella! </DIV></DIV>

what about a headcrab with fully functioning soft claws that attaches to the babies arse instead of head, and lined with disposable nappies.

oh, and congrats on the baby Mr. Squirrel

Thankee much, everyone!

I agree with Orph. I never really thought too far in the future of my having kids that often, but when I did I knew I wanted to, circumstances willing, start young. Just all the more time you'll be around, right?

As for names, we've got them picked out for two girls and one boy... how things will turn out, you never know, but we decided on these almost instantly when we decided to get married.

Girl: Jamie Lynn
Boy: Reilan Clark
Girl: Caitlin Lindsey

I was lucky; I got to pick two of three. We'll see how things turn out order-wise, though, and if we even dare get more after this one!

I'll be sure to keep everyone posted, too - if not directly, I'll keep updates (as applicable) on my site once it's finally back up and running.

Congratulations!

I've got names for my kids even before I had a girlfriend. Now I
am engaged to be married in less than two months, we've settled on two
boy names and two girl names.

I was just talking to my fiance about letting our kids playing computer
games, and she doesn't think she'll allow our son to play any shooter
games until he's at least fourteen years old.

It would be a beautiful father-son moment when my son slaughters the first Combine of his life.

Well, it's a given I won't let the little one play Quake for a few years. But we'll see what sort of tastes develop. Who's to say he/she will end up playing games anyway?

Though with the collection I have and what will with the next generation of consoles turn into a pretty beefy system setup, it'll be tough to escape that sort of exposure.

I have an animator friend back home from my old 4DR days whose little girl (5 now) was playing Mario Kart, Jak, Ratchet, and using Photoshop and a wacom by the age of 3 1/2 or so. Technology's just too cool for the lil'uns to pass up

Hahah photoshop and a wacom? That's awesome. Man I wish I had a wacom now let alone when I was younger.

The closest I ever got to that as a kid was a program called "KidPix"
for macs. Fun stuff. But you're right, technology is just
becoming too cool to pass up.

also dont sleep with the baby in your bed
There is no scientific evidence that co-sleeping increases the risk for SIDS. It's perfectly safe and there is a danger only if the adult is intoxicated.

The most important advice is to put the baby on his/her back to sleep (supine). This drastically reduces SIDS incidence.

But more importantly, get plenty of rest whenever you can. It'll be the most tiring experience of your life (but also the most rewarding).

Remember this above all else where children are concerned. Babies are not born with bad habits. If they acquire one, you only have yourself to blame.

Unless you want to sleep with a baby till its 10, do NOT start doing so as an infant. for Gods sake, do NOT use a pacifier. This not only distorts the growth of the child's mouth, it creates the need to constantly suck on something. Unless you want this child to have buck teeth and its thumb in its mouth forever do not use one. Before you laugh, I know this to be a fact, its not my opinion.

You do not want to hear the nightmares I have seen with parents and their erroneous thinking where infants are concerned. I had a cousin who discovered that children sleep while driving. We call it "gasoline ass" so they got the bright idea to drive it to sleep every night when they had trouble getting it to bed, teething and colic, etc.etc.

Anywho's, to make a long story short, the habit was created where they were forced to drive the kid around much longer. Do not create any habits you are not willing to deal with later. Most habits are annoying at best, worse they can lead to abuse.
