I think it's HL2 DM. At which point, all the HL2 DM mods are going to whine.

Wheres "expansion pack" option? There has been a buzz lately that valve is going to put out a expansion pack for HL2.
Wheres "CSS expansion"? Its a given fact that valve is putting out 2 original cs maps plus 1 new map, and different player models, maybe they are putting it our early.
But hopefully it will be something HL2 related.

Well I hope its hl2 DM becuase that would make it easy to base a mod off of. Instead of going from nothing perhaps cs source would help. I sure do hope its hl2dm though.

i went with option 3, extra modding resources, mainly due to this surprise being mentioned in the same sentence that states the full sdk will be released at the same time. i'm thinking along the lines of a barebones mp mod, or how to use the sdk to build one.

Fishy I might have to agree with you there. I doubt they would actualy make a hl2dm mode but hell......we dont know that.

I think it will be the CS:S update. They said they would release more maps in december. Hopefully I'm wrong, but hey at least the full sdk will be out.

Let's say I hope it's going to be HL2DM, although I think it's some extra modding stuff. Wich wouldn't be a bad surprize either.
Or Hammer available outside Steam...

They haven't given a release date for DoD:S yet have they? Could be
that. Another thing I'm inclined to think is the release of more CS:S
stuff, since as Omega said, they have announced more is in the making.
The final most likely option, and what I hope it is, is HL2DM, which I
can imagine both AG2 and the unofficial HL2DM will be a bit annoyed at
making an appearance (less so AG2, who could just turn it into a match
mod like AG1 and still enjoy some success).

You have to admit though that it was a bit silly doing any major work on a DM mod before the SDK is out....

Major work? I don't think any of the DM mods could be criticised of
doing that to be honest, everything done so far is just design work
really.

Takes away both team's opportunities to take their place as the
unofficial yet "official" DM choice for HL2. It pretty much entirely
destroy's the HL2DM teams mod idea, but at least AG2 were never
planning on making it just a DM mode for HL2.

Eh, it's better to have one official mod than two unofficial ones. It'd just lead to a bitter rivalry and senseless forum wars or some random crap with time.
Also, no offense to either team, but I'd trust Valve to set up the base mechanics like speed, movement, damage, etc. etc. and THEN letting mod teams do their own adjustments from there over letting other teams arbitrarily make those decisions from the start.

Nobody mentioned this but now I think of it, it seems kinda obvious. It
is quite possibly some TF2 news, perhaps even a surprise release?

I dunno Reno. TF2 would surely be a great surprise, but I think Valve may go with an HL2DM.
Or perhaps, CS2?

I always toyed with the idea that TF2 may end up being set in the HL2 universe...that would be quite nice.

I'd kill for TF2, but I doubt it's going to come about through valve.

CS2 wouldn't be so soon after CS:S, I think that will be a few years
down the line to be honest. Valve have already said that TF2 still
exists, so I wouldn't doubt it TOO much TwoKnives (I feel
so...dirty...calling you that)

i agree wholeheartedly, orph. i played tfc a little when i first bought
condition zero, and i didnt really like it. but i guess that wasnt
during its hay-day was it? oh well, if i could choose what this
"surprise" would be, HL2DM would be it... well maybe the full SDK, but
only so the mod teams could finish with their versions of HL2DM. im
tired of waiting. this is taking too long. its like giving a starving
person a dried-up bone to chew on... cruel.
/edit
but then again im discontented in general...

The full SDK is definately coming next week, so the surprise for the
community that is coming with it is definately something else.

Although I hope the surprise is HLDM, (I'm sure they have noticed the wave of people shocked, that there is no HL2DM) I also get the feeling that TF2 is now set in the HL world. If you look at the team battles in Hl2, you see alot of ideas there that directly bleed into their TF2 stuff (different team classes, plantable mines, dropships, gunships..etc). Plus, everyone and thier mother is doing a WW2, Vietnam, Desert Combat, style team-warfare game. This would really set TF2 apart from other games, and allow them the freedom to really create some cool s**t.

Yeah, TF2 becoming that sort of a Wolfenstein Enemy Territory thing (in the same universe, but separate from all those events) would be really cool.
