I think it's HL2 DM. At which point, all the HL2 DM mods are going to whine.

Wheres "expansion pack" option? There has been a buzz lately that valve is going to put out a expansion pack for HL2.

Wheres "CSS expansion"? Its a given fact that valve is putting out 2 original cs maps plus 1 new map, and different player models, maybe they are putting it our early.

But hopefully it will be something HL2 related.

Sven Co-op is not affiliated with or partnered with Valve, no matter what they'd have you believe. This is the team that made a gargantuan 'press release' about a so-called 'partnership' after just getting the tidbit from Valve that they would continue to support -all- mods the same way they did with HL. Apparently the first version of the 'release' made it sound like Valve had bought them. Hooray arrogance and overconfidence!!!

This is like a 19 page article but its really good... towards the end Gabe says they already have teams workin on expansion missions and such.
But I bet my life the "suprise" is definitely HLDM, I mean how can the all time king of online dm not release a dm mode in the follow up game....It would be utterly ridiculious

Well I hope its hl2 DM becuase that would make it easy to base a mod off of. Instead of going from nothing perhaps cs source would help. I sure do hope its hl2dm though.

i went with option 3, extra modding resources, mainly due to this surprise being mentioned in the same sentence that states the full sdk will be released at the same time. i'm thinking along the lines of a barebones mp mod, or how to use the sdk to build one.

They're going to add upgrading options for hl2 owners and release the entire back catalog as well as all upcoming mods. They also got Vivendi to remove this rediculous cd rule.

In addition they're releasing a HLDM version with the Phys-Gun included and several amazing maps. They're also releasing OP4 source, Blue Shift Source, and replacing all the HD pack over steam.

The SDK will come with satellite access codes so you can have a laser scratch your ass any time you like.

I think it will be the CS:S update. They said they would release more maps in december. Hopefully I'm wrong, but hey at least the full sdk will be out.

But, if they already mentioned maps were coming in December that wouldn't very well be a surprise now would it?

I'm fairly sure they knew how pissed people would be if there was no HL2DM, I mean, how many months have they been going, "No, CS:S is the MP for HL2" ?

I hope you're wrong too

They haven't given a release date for DoD:S yet have they? Could be
that. Another thing I'm inclined to think is the release of more CS:S
stuff, since as Omega said, they have announced more is in the making.
The final most likely option, and what I hope it is, is HL2DM, which I
can imagine both AG2 and the unofficial HL2DM will be a bit annoyed at
making an appearance (less so AG2, who could just turn it into a match
mod like AG1 and still enjoy some success).

You have to admit though that it was a bit silly doing any major work on a DM mod before the SDK is out....

Major work? I don't think any of the DM mods could be criticised of
doing that to be honest, everything done so far is just design work
really.

Takes away both team's opportunities to take their place as the
unofficial yet "official" DM choice for HL2. It pretty much entirely
destroy's the HL2DM teams mod idea, but at least AG2 were never
planning on making it just a DM mode for HL2.

Eh, it's better to have one official mod than two unofficial ones. It'd just lead to a bitter rivalry and senseless forum wars or some random crap with time.

Also, no offense to either team, but I'd trust Valve to set up the base mechanics like speed, movement, damage, etc. etc. and THEN letting mod teams do their own adjustments from there over letting other teams arbitrarily make those decisions from the start.

they had better not attempt to introduce any other MP crap until they have released HL2DM

TFC was s**t before, it will be s**t again, i am not keen on waiting for HL2DM just because of it.

also, no updates on CS either, they already treated everyone to CS/S, its time for some quality HLDM now.. I want the FULL SDK, or whatever it will take to get a valve sanctioned DM map made.

i agree wholeheartedly, orph. i played tfc a little when i first bought
condition zero, and i didnt really like it. but i guess that wasnt
during its hay-day was it? oh well, if i could choose what this
"surprise" would be, HL2DM would be it... well maybe the full SDK, but
only so the mod teams could finish with their versions of HL2DM. im
tired of waiting. this is taking too long. its like giving a starving

but then again im discontented in general...

Although I hope the surprise is HLDM, (I'm sure they have noticed the wave of people shocked, that there is no HL2DM) I also get the feeling that TF2 is now set in the HL world. If you look at the team battles in Hl2, you see alot of ideas there that directly bleed into their TF2 stuff (different team classes, plantable mines, dropships, gunships..etc). Plus, everyone and thier mother is doing a WW2, Vietnam, Desert Combat, style team-warfare game. This would really set TF2 apart from other games, and allow them the freedom to really create some cool s**t.

Yeah, TF2 becoming that sort of a Wolfenstein Enemy Territory thing (in the same universe, but separate from all those events) would be really cool.

I thought they were just taking what they already made (like two years ago) and porting it to source with some tweaks. I do know they're fully developing TF2. It'll be stand alone (last I heard) with it's own SP and MP. Which will justify the $50 price tag. (This what I've heard and observed over the last few months)
