Well, yesterday I bought AudioSurf off of steam. It's a fun little $10 game; I'll have fun with it. It's nice being able to play a game similar to that of Frequency on my computer, and be able to listen to my music -- not someone else's idea of what I should be listening to.

Anybody else pick up Trials 2 on Steam?

For those who haven't heard of it, it's a great little Trial Biking game. Its got 3D graphics (which look great for what they are) but the gameplay all plays out on a 2D plane. You've only 4 buttons - Accelerate, Brake, Lean Forward, Lean Back - and with those you need to try and navigate your way through over 50 obstacle courses.

Its hugely addictive; with its checkpointing system and instant retry its really easy to say "just one more try" and see an hour of your life disappear before you. It's our new lunch time game in the office, with 8 of us now having bought it and all joining an in-game "team" to compete against each other's times and help push Team Outerlight up the scoreboard.

If anybody else has it, add me as a friend on Steam - always nice to have more times to try and beat

Finally got my hands on Counter-Strike source. I liked the levels (both remakes and the new maps), but what happened to fastline from Counter-Strike Condition Zero  ? Also I thought it was far to easy to get head shots, and the bots are much more fun to verse now that they are more like a human player than previously.

Braid on Xbox Live Arcade is awesome. Odd little puzzle platformer that'll wrack your brain on a good few occasions, and yet you'll always figure it out eventually. It isn't anything fantastically new as such, playing as a straightforward 2d platformer with not-all-that-uncommon-these-days "time reversal abilities". But its the way that the game makes you use your time control, and how it mixes things up in each world with little quirks or extra abilities, and how they are all incorporated in a whole load of puzzles that are each unique, that makes it special. The artistic, painterly style and pretentious yet really quite thought provoking story are icing on the cake. I completed the game in a single 5 hour sitting essentially, and it was time enjoyed and well spent. I thoroughly recommend it to anybody who likes a slower paced, more thoughtful game once in a while.

Oh and Geometry Wars 2 is, as those of you who played Geometry Wars 1 will know, fucking ace. With Bionic Commando and Castle Crashers rounding out this month's XBLA releases, it's turning into an awesome yet expensive month to be an Xbox owner!

Played Fallout 3.. OMFG ...
It has the biggest, most detailed world in any game I have ever seen/played.

I hate to say this guys, but Fallout 3 bumped HL out of first place in my all time favorite game.
Detail, game intrigue, detail... Did I mention, DETAIL!

The world itself is so freaking huge that I cannot even begin to imagine how come I am not stumbling around at 1 frame per sec.

Huge? That word is just to an insignificant a description.

Anywho's, I just had to post a kudo's to the best game I have played... EVER.

I am currently playing Deadspace. I have recently beaten Legendary and Jericho. I have had lots of fun playing these games but with all of these games there are things that I like about them and things that I don't.
I have also just purchased Bad Company; what do you guys think of it? (I haven't played hardly any of it yet)

I think Fallout 3 is really fun but I do have a problem right now. The mission marker says that my current mission is in Megaton but whenever I enter Megaton it says my mission is by a school close to the water but then the marker goes back to Megaton. I don't know. (I'm at the part when I have to talk to Moriarty; the second time) I didn't pay him the first time for the info) The game is still fun though, but I would like to progress some more right now. I may have to restart and pay him right out front.

If by any chance someone would know what I could try right now that would be greatly appreciated.

Playing Stalker clear sky.. Goodness abounds. Not on par with fallout 3 but excellent on its own merits. I do however have issues with its hardware requirements. It much more demanding than I care for. I recommendthis game to anyone whom is looking for a good FPS/RPG.

I really enjoyed Dead Space, and I'm actually about half way through a second play-through to make use of some of the weapons I barely used in my first game. Considering playing through with only using the Plasma Cutter on the hardest difficulty to try and get all the achievements, but I've got a few other games to get bored of before I go THAT far :)

I enjoyed Jericho too, for all its flaws. It got a bit panned by critics, but I think it had enough interesting ideas to make it well worth playing. Extremely brutal in places, and although it wasn't really SCARY, it was rather dark and foreboding. Shame about the lack of enemy types and environments, as its main downfall was the repetition.

They're not invisible, you have your graphics set incorrectly.

If your card is small, set it accordingly BUT turn up what you need to see the "invisible death" spots.

I gots a little bitty card and I have no trouble avoiding them, besides, if you desire collecting artifacts, you'll need to enter a few.

Gametap lets you play Stalker for free as I'm writing this. They seem to announce "free weeks" but then never really end the free period, letting members play certain games for free for months. Seriously, check it out, it's quite a nice service. You really just have to register on their site.

I have to say Stalker was an underwhelming experience. I heard you should only play it with a few mods/fixes installed - which isn't possible with Gametap's DRM-tastic install methods, so I had to play the original without fixes or modifications. And it's so full of bugs, it's ridiculous. An example?

Well, I snuck up to some bandit camp from behind, trying to get close before I attack. I saved while still being hidden, started my attack, died. So I reloaded, only to see all the enemies which had their back to me during saving now STARE AND SHOOT AT ME the second loading was complete. Rage!

Also the fights and stalking gets a little monotone after a while. I really had high hopes in this game (FPS-RPG hybrid in an interesting setting made specifically for PC - exactly my kind of thing), maybe that's why I was disappointed.

But then I found a couple of other free games in the Gametap catalogue (pretty impressive: Deus Ex, Psychonauts, Thief 3). The only of these I hadn't played yet was Thief 3, which turned out to be excellent. Seriously, Thief 3 rocks (despite a slightly consolized interface). Great atmosphere, classic Thief gameplay, interesting missions... everything I could have asked for.

Check out Thief 3, if you missed it! :D

While at PAX, I had a chance to play WET. When that game comes out GET IT, if you liked Kill Bill.

I also had a private chance to try Guild Wars 2. GET IT! it is awesome, more traditional MMO.

I also tried a few other games.. some nifty stuff about to hot the shelf.

BUMP....

So yea, I recently played and beat Machinarium, the game Finger had suggested. -As a puzzle/adventure game lover, it was truly worth the $20. Not too long, not too hard; I beat it in about 10 hours.
User posted image
It's purely a point n' click game which hearkened back to the 'ol 2D games of yore that a lot of educational developers were making (namely the "Magic School Bus" series of games, which as a kid I was very fond of). Also kind of like Myst, except you play from a 4rth wall perspective (like Mario) where you see the character on screen, basically like a sidescroller, except the spaces aren't always connected to the left and right of each frame. Really well done, and the ambient music is good enough to listen to outside the game (like I have listened to now for about 4 hours) Every action and part of the puzzle gets it's own animation from the robot character which totals up in over 100 animations (it says somewhere on the site). So the game remains a unique adventure of exploration the entire duration. Not a whole lot of back-tracking.

If you're looking for a way to support an indie developer, this is a good one to look at!

Just got COD Modern Warfare 2 and it has a ton of content, and great game play. Also got off steam Flashpoint Red Dragon Rising and Torchlight. Both great games.

I think I like COD MW2 the most right now, it has the stuff I want in a shooter... and so much extra stuff and even Steam medals and awards like TF2. Has Multi Player as well.. so if you wanna get it and shoot me in the face I welcome you.

Yup MW2 is great, I always play it in split screen mode on the Xbox 360.

Can you believe it? My brother is lvl 37 and I am lvl 33 in Splitscreen! Leveling up that way goes like 5 times slower

I suppose my issue in not buying it is that I simply cannot see how the multiplayer experience will be any different from the last one.

I have actually found some enjoyment in Borderlands though. As a single player game I haven't been that impressed by it, but I hooked up a lan game with one of my friends and quite enjoyed it. It reminds me a lot of Diablo 2, but with guns and first person action.

I just got COD:MW2 myself. I must say the game is very pretty, and the experience is fluid. The action sequences are really cool such as the snow mobile get-away or the rock climbing, and even the free running to the helicopter.

However the action stuff was few and far in between. I find the game play is very linear and boring once you get to playing it. It gets repetitive, theres no real challenge to the game. The AI is uber dumb too, I see enemy soldiers practically hugging (really just walking past) one another and not shooting at each other. Really dumb especially because in the escort convoys the soldiers leave a lot of enemy soldiers behind and they end up flanking us.

Its pretty violent too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG7oTAC5nik

I'm actually very disturbed by this mission. I've seen a lot of violent stuff in video games. I mean we all have. But mowing down innocent people is really sunken low. In retrospect I could have opted out for the "skip the violent and disturbing level" option at the beginning of the game, but come-on, everyones going to do that level because they want to see what warrants that kind of disclaimer.

Other than that the game is a technical masterpiece of graphics and sound. Game play is very lacking in terms of AI and variety (I mean you shoot one gun in the game and you've practically shot them all).

Omega, those games are really made for multi player so their stories aren't often based on gameplay, but on the story itself

though I do know the mission you are talking about I haven't seen enough of the rest of the story to know if it was necessary to the drama at all

Thats true, I didn't think from that angle. I will say then shouldn't (if there is one, or its included) the single player part to game hook you in to the game play and give you a taste of the multi player part of the game?

So far what I've seen is a generic shooter game, however I hope to be wrong.

The Disclaimer level, I never once fired a shot.. and I did not like how I was not given a choice to be a traitor to these guys and save myself. It could of used a little more choose your own adventure style structure than what they went with. But hey I enjoyed it... even though I am tired of games I can finish in a few hours even on the hardest of settings. You pay 50+ bucks for something I expect more is all from the main game. But I am not unhappy because they have multi player even though I feel they messed that up.. I would of liked the option of having a server and admin it.. would stop the rampant hacking problem the game has. The extras in the game besides the multi player are top notch. I play the sniper and race test over and over just because its so much fun.

No its because its pretty damn real.. and just brutal. But yes that is the level they want you too skip when they ask at the start of the game.

Can someone please ask/demand tnkqwe remove that damn animated thing in his signature. I got a bunch of mail asking me to remove my cards, and it is less than what he has going on.. can we please get that removed?

I will say this of the multiplayer on the old one, I'm pretty sure the new one is just about the same: let yourself get a few levels before giving up on it, it's damn hard to enjoy until you get some better weapons/perks.

also: I like to see linear style gameplay every once in a while, there are too damn many 'sandbox' games out now a day and all they are is irritating about it

The only taboo i have is when it comes to pirating is games.
That being said:
I received CoD4 for x mass when it came out. I hated it. No need to shoot anything. Run from point a to point b. Never ending hordes of enemies.
I had no interest in playing let alone buying cod6. When i herd about the level wear u mow down a crowd of people i was motivated to download it. It was the only level i liked. I thought it was lacking though. It needed more screaming, begging and crying. And i was disappointed by the lack of children. If they made a game centered around massacring crowds of people, that would be at the vary top of my to buy list. i played a few more levels after that levels and never finished the game. This reminded me i still had it on my computer and as soon as i log off ill be deleting it.
Reality has become a commodity.

I think there was room to have a limited arch. You could of had in a few scenes a if you do this at this point then this is the ending, or if you do that at a point a different ending and that would load the next scene according to what path you took.

But then again I guess the backstabbing aspects would of been loss.

Omega - Thanks.

Star Craft 2

I would wait till the game gets lowered till at least 39$ - not because the game is bad, but because your gonna have to pay 59$ for each race (Terran now, Zerg next, Protos Later).

I overheard a few people talking about an issue with Starcraft 2 where if you play it on a low resolution it can burn out your gfx card.

edit:

Seems to be true.

It's due to a specific image being sent to the card to be drawn constantly, you can fix it with a command line argument.

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!
Duke Nukem Forever Demo.

It was pretty fun, even if ridiculously archaic. I do wish the shooting mechanics were smoother, but everything else is gold.

Biggest thread necromancy I've ever committed, but hey anything to get a conversation going again on the pit :D

Lately I've been enjoying the VR game Into The Radius. I've been told it's similar to Stalker, but I've not played that game.

The ammo management is very realistic and fun, you actually get to prepare your own magazines round by round.

Other than that I've been playing the rogue-like Noita on and off, I discovered this gem about a year and a half ago and I have to say it's one of the best games I've ever played. Highly recommend for any rogue-like fans out there. It consists of a world where every pixel has its own properties and on top of that there is a great wand-building system.
