if its a matter of trust, i think i qualify. i would however only be concerned that someone like me could inadvertently create a condition to where no one could gain access due to something done accidentally.
is there a way to safeguard that the server is always accessible to the most important people?

I don't think there is anything that you could do that would screw the
server over so much that nobody could access it indefinately. Worst
case scenario would most likely be that the server would crash and we'd
need to wait for the people at 4uservers or something to reset it, but
even that would probably be hard to do.

i know you posted the 24th as the next scheduled event, and i appreciate it. i also appreciate if you give me as much notice as possible for any other events.
i may be home the 24th i dunno yet. if you need a body give me a yell prior to the game.
it may literally end up a body, but you will just have to deal with that.
BTW, what country are these things being hosted in? hopefully, they move them around so no one place has the clear advantage in pings every time.
give me a yell the morning of the 24th, if you need a handicap player, i will fill that slot nicely.

How did you restart the server Andrei? Is there a restart option in the
rcon section of the admin menu? I tried adding one but when I went into
the server it wasn't up. Might just have needed a map change in order
to load in the new rcon options list though.
And yeah, a server restart is the only way to fix most of the bad bugs

you could always flood the server untill it crashed, and then it would auto reboot.
I think it would be a very bad idea to give out the rcon password to
anyone, and even worse if they didn't know how to use it. Rcon
can really screw up a server if the admin changes something by mistake.

Reno, I just had to restart the server again after the penatration bug
kicked-in on dm_underpass. Somehow, I think that this bug has
something to do with this particular map. I suggest removing it
from the mapcycle for a while to see if the problem persists.

I have heard that, like Steamlab, Underpass is a prime cause of the
screwy physics error (I assume this is what you are referring to?).
I'll take it down I guess, as some server admins on the Steam forums
were saying it causes the error around 1/4 of the times its played.

Uhh...me and Natus keep having problems checking some clowns' ids out. We keep typing status
but the troublemakers' names just aren't being displayed. We can't fint
the desired names in the kick/ban lists either. How can we fix these
hacking bastards' wagon? Me hears that VAC can counter this kind of
thing?

I've never heard of this problem, so I'm afraid I can't offer any
advice  Are they using cheats or causing trouble? Or is it just not
being able to see their ID's that is worrying you?

well, not being able to see their id may be because they're using hacks
(or h4x0rz), but VAC is pretty good to have anyway, then all the lame
cheating bastardous people will get permbanned when joining the server.

That's right ReNo, you can't actually perform RCON commands via Mani admin, it seems to be the optimal system.
Also, if you need the FTP/RCON details forwarding, give me a shout. I imagine Lep has done it already, but just nod and I shall do.

Now I know that from time to time I am a bit of a pain, but unless you guys are embarrassed in some way, I think you should update the message that loads with the server to include all your assistants.
There are currently only 3 admins listed.
Also, my slide bar is all pink checkers, I cannot seem to scroll down below "Rules:" .. Is there more message below?
I don't mind the pink checkers, cause I think I can pretty much envision the rules, but others might say they didn't know if they cannot scroll down. :/
Assuming I have the ability to alter said message. I think it would be overstepping my authority to do so without permission. I have not looked into it so I leave it to those whom can to alter things.
BTW, I have only used "Change Map" and it worked just fine, so everything seems peachy.
I still do not know why I was kicked out last night however.

MOTD = Message of the day
The pink checkerboard on the scrollbar, and the lack of being able to
scroll, is a bug in the game I guess. It happens on most servers I've
seen, and I don't see any way to fix it  Only reason the list hasn't
been updated with all admins is because nobody has gotten around to it
I guess, I'll do it when I get a chance. We need to try and keep the
MOTD quite short in order to fit in one screen to avoid the bugs I
mentioned, but I'll need to tinker with the layout a little in order to
achieve that.
By the way, why did you post this in the "theme suggestions" chapter?

Hmm, dm_runoff doesn't seem to be finished- there are several obvious graphical glitches, not to mention terrible connectivity as a result of someone forgetting to build a doorway between the two ends of the canals (check out the "hidden area" that links the two which you can only reach by noclipping)

BTW, I just inspected the wonderful map called dm_runoff. Pants. Its BAD. I can't believe this map is VALVe made (is it?).
Ok, for a start the map has a very bad layout and many imperfections.
For one, I managed to get into the background by sprint-jumping off a
catwalk over a fence. No player_clip brush, no anything to stop the
player from falling outside the game area. The textures are pretty
repetitive too. What's with that concrete texture on that cylinder
thing, which I assume is a large oiltank or something? Another thing
that bothered me is the light_environment which doesn't go right with
the sky nor with the sun; too yellowish. What else? That rock wall
looks looks like it were man made, the props are
scattered around as if they were caught in a tornado and, since most of
the battle goes on outside, the players just kill eachother in a line,
in a matter of speaking. I guess I am
being a bit harsh but being an official map I had higher expectations. I
usualy think an official map should be out of the ordinary, to make
other mappers look up to it and be inspired by it. DM_runoff is just
plain. I'd give it a 6/10. Harsh?
Maybe, but if it were made by an amature mapper it would have been
worth at least 7/10. Shame.

I've taken dm_underpass off, and dm_runoff won't go on, simply because it's rubbish. Surely they've made a mistake with this map, in addition to what we've all already pointed out- it's nothing like crossfire!!

They never said it was going to be like crossfire though, its just the
airstrike in the bunker that is the comparison between the two. Andrei,
I think 6/10 is far too generous to be honest, the connectivity is a
joke. Looks not bad, though nothing special. Interior bathroom looks
like a very poor attempt to copy lockdown's shower area however  I
can't believe the distance you have to travel from the canal ends
before you get a choice of route, and there are only about 3 times you
can "switch" route if you travel from one end of the map to the other.
Quite an abysmal effort, and no way is it going on the server.
Good call removing underpass as well, caused quite a few crashes
apparently. I'd be inclined to remove resistance and morbid as well,
and possibly add in a few others from outside the site, but I know Gwil
was keen on keeping it to snarkpit maps.

We will definately need to start a clan night, but I think we should
discuss that in the clan chapter of the thread. Orph, theme suggestions
are meant to be suggestions for organised events like playtesting
nights, interwebsite wars, etc... Doesn't really matter that you put it
here (we still read it after all  ), just seemed a bit out of place.
No matter

I really can't understand how a bsp like so many others can cause these
bugs. The problem must be somewhere else, now that I think of it. Maybe
the server gets a penetration error at certain intervals of time. The map playtime being fixed and the mapcycle constant, underpass will always be on at the same hours. I believe the fact that the whole thing goes to pot on underpass could very well be a coincidence.
Also, I played alot of underpass these last 3 days on our server and I didn't have to reset the server at all.

my new map will be...well it will probably have some pretty nice
combine brushwork, i dont know about the size yet, the layout right now
is a bit like island 17 (a tower thing with an rpg, underground
passages and such).
you can think of it as a combination of rebar and island 17, but with combine theme xD

Andrei, I'm not basing the theory it is the maps on our own server
experience, but more the general concensus. Looking on other forums,
loads of server admins are complaining about Steamlab and Underpass
being the worst offenders for server issues (mostly the physics
penetration issue), and they are the only maps I've seen the error
occur on.
Resistance and Morbid are just pretty poor playing maps, hence them being removed.

Oh yeah, and given the fact that some moron at valve forgot to link the

Thats -2 points because I didn't think valve were capable of doing
